Hello, I've a laptop that's driving me mad. It works fine on wired RJ45 connection, but not on Wireless. It's very strange and I wonder if anyone can help.
When switching on, the wireless icon (next to the clock) says "wireless networks in range". When i click to view available networks, there's nothing there it says "No wireless networks were found in range"
I've checked that ...
is there a utility for managing the wireless installed, other than the inbuilt windows stuff ? They can give the symptoms you describe in which case use that utility rather than the Windows stuff.

|Thanks for the reply Yarwell. No there isn't another utility, it's always just been Windows that deals with the connection. Is there a 'generic' utility that can be used? For info the Wireless connection is Atheros ar5005g.

what make of laptop ? try their download site for an updated wireless driver and/or utility.
http://www.gallien.org/serendipity/uploads/wlan_ac er... is for an Acer, if you're reasonably competent you could try it and reverse out if no good.

Hi, make sure you have the latest driver for your laptop wireless connection device.
Configure your wireless connection with a static IP address, you tell it where to connect.

I have an Atheros based HP laptop here which will not connect with a Netgear wireless router (DG834?). I get round it by disabling the Netgear's AP and connecting to it a semi-defunct Linksys router, using the Linksys's wireless capabilities as an AP....the HP with Atheros is perfectly happy talking to the Linksys.
