and welcome to the Forum Is the install CD you are using an original or a copy?

razza12003 replied 3 months, 3 weeks ago
Copy, but i have a valid cd key and everything, just the original cd got all scratched and no longer worked, so i downloaded and burnt another copy. But i know this copy works as i have used it on my laptop.

It is not being read as a bootable CD by your CD drive. You can try re-burning the download at the slowest write speed so that your CD drive can get a better handle at reading it or try a different CD drive. BTW you can Downgrade Vista to XP, you have to Delete the Partition and Format the drive. You may need to slipstream SATA drivers and other driver nto the XP disc using nLite.

That's fine, but some older cd drives will not boot from a copy . . or need a very good copy. Any chance you can get your hands on an original or reburn the copy at the slowest speed of the burner? Edit" Spike is fast!!

Ok so i reburnt the disk at the lowest possible speed, and still no look. I cant get my hands on a copy of the original disk. Any more suggestions? Something about those SATA drivers, can u point me in the right direction of where to get these and how to use them? Thanks

Booting from the cd has nothing to do with SATA drivers . . You might try a new cd drive

but why/how is it my disk drive? It works fine with everything else, from playing dvd's, to installig software, to installing Windows 7 and Vista!! Why would it just choose to not be able to install XP?

It seems not to recognize the boot sector on the cd . . either the cd or the drive is faulty. I have seen many cd drives work fine, but refuse to boot from a copy of a cd . .
