If it is only the Windows Update Site you have problems with try running this fix from MS.

Good morning All.
I have been having a problem with updates on my Windows XP Home edition the past couple of days. The yellow triangle pops up in the bottom right of my pc for updates, but sits at 0% all the time. Today I have gone to help and support via start menu, and clicked on 'keep up to date with windows updates' after running for a few seconds, I get the following messages:

Thank you so much for your help. It did not work first time round, but did in 'agressive' mode, and is now happily going through the updates as I type this.
