Thread: Win 7 - MOV files

Started 1 month, 3 weeks ago by Richard DePaso
We work cross platform betwen the Mac and PC and just updated our PC NLE systems to 64 bit Windows 7. Suddenly we find that Win 7 doesn't recognize or playback MOV or other quicktime files. They will play back in Itunes but won't even playback in Quicktime Player. This of course means that all the projects done on the Mac can't work on the PC. Does anyone know what is being done to ...

Did you download the 64 bit version of Quicktime? I also don't believe there is version of QT for Win 7, even if Microsoft says it should work ... uhum. Finally, make sure you download the latest 4.2 update that fixes sync issues on exports. Vince Becquiot Kaptis Studios San Francisco - Bay Area

We have Premiere Pro 4.2. The Apple website has a new driver for Windows 7 but it is only 32 bit -version 7.6.4 I don't see a new 64 bit download on the page.

You're right, I was somehow thinking of iTunes as I was typing. It should however work fine. What Quicktime format are they encoded in? Did you have additional QT codecs installed on your previous machine such as the Prores decoder ? Vince Becquiot Kaptis Studios San Francisco - Bay Area

We have all types of MOV files. Everything from pro res, DV and web files. None will play in Premiere or the Quicktime player (won't open). It is a Quicktime Pro licensed version. Before we made it Pro, then the Quicktime player would open but files wouldn't play. All will play in ITunes. We also have the Quicktime MPEG2 plugin downloaded from Apple and installed. This machine is an ...

I did a quick search and most people reporting the error seem to be able to fix it by removing the application completely and reinstalling. I would try that first. Again, no issues here with Prores or Animation on Win 7 / 64. Vince Becquiot Kaptis Studios San Francisco - Bay Area

I would say probably nothing. If you are using Premier Pro make sure the latest Quicktime Download is installed and it comes up in the files to open , not "All files', the Quicktime mov. extension should be showing , otherwise it will not work. If you were running Quicktime Pro on a PC in Australia which is PAL territory, the Apple Techs will tell you they cannot help ? Great service !...

I got it to work/to recognize MOV files on at least Premiere. You have to open the program as "administrator". Now we still don't have the Quicktime player working correctly and that is still an issue.

Hi Richard, You may have to ditch the Quick Time player , I mean not use it. Leave the files on the computer.Otherwise you cannot import the mov. files into Premiere Pro ? on a PC the player works but, there is no sound "On play all tracks" the sound is there when playing in pre play mode but, it (the video) is not smooth. Apart from the fact that Premiere pro needs it to process mov. ...

Correct. We associated MOV with ITunes so at least they will play in something. There are tons of posts on various forums about problems with Quicktime/Windows 7-64 bit. Apple and Microsoft need to take note of these posts and take action. I've also reported it to Adobe where they were able to duplicate the problem so at least even without a total solution, their tech people are aware of...

Quicktime has had a black line for control bar in 64 bit browsers for years, so my guess is you may have to find workarounds... Vince Becquiot Kaptis Studios San Francisco - Bay Area
