Thread: Wife Passport after marriage

Started 5 months, 3 weeks ago by AAAA
Hi all, Is it necessary for a girl in pakistan to get a new passport and CNIC after marriage even if she has got one before marriage? I mean for visa processing purposes, is it necessary that the husband's name appears on the wife's passport or just a nikah nama is sufficient as a proof of marriage. Plz advise ur personal experiences! Thanks.

Well my sister didnt make a new passport when she wanted to go to UK to her hubby after marriage. The other sis too was using same passport for US but she never got the process completed as her hubby came to UAE.

any body else with personal experience. My wife's passport is in her father's name. She has already got the visa stamped on this passport. Will there be any issues created by the karachi airport immigration authorities at the time of her travel i.e. exit from karachi airport relating to the fact that her passport is in her father's name and not in my name i.e. husband's name?

i don't understand why you think there will be any problem of her travelling with her passport in her father's name? the only important thing is that she has a valid visa allowing her to travel. if she has a spouse visa or something like that, then she should also take all the documents she submitted to obtain the visa as they usually ask to see them (for first exit only).

If she got a visa already in a valid passport then why would you need to get your name on the passport. Presumably the passport was issued before the marriage and only when it expires and a new passport is issued will it become necessary to add your name.

Thanks a lot for ur replies. i also don't see a problem with that at the khi airport. My wife got her passport a month before the marriage. The reason i asked this is that the passport office official at that time told her that she shud apply for her passport after the marriage as even if she gets a passport now before the marriage, she would have to apply for a new passport after the ...

it will be fine. think about it the other way around: my husband got his passport a few months before we were married. he then applied for a spouse visa and that was granted. when he travelled to the UK, he didn't need anything in his passport saying he was married to me - the fact he has been granted a visa is all that's needed! same for women.

^ ditto, dont worry AAAA, am sure your wife wont have any trouble. if you're really worried you could contact the british embassy in pakistan and try and further enquire there.

Dear All, If u have to pass through the ministry of foreign affairs (i mean if there attestation is needed), then u have to change the CNIC. Notary public is no problem.

AAAA :S I have CNIC (in my father's name) and our nikkahnama was attested with no problem but not from the ministry of foreign affairs, it was done by notary public.
