Thread: Why oppose health care reform?

Started 4 months, 4 weeks ago by Jayhawk311
Why are so many Babyboomers opposed to health care reform? By the time I am old enough to retire Medicare will be out of money and private health insurance will likely cost much more than I can afford. After high school I paid $15 a month for health insurance, ten years later I pay $200 a month. My wife is covered through her employer, but we pay $335 a month to cover our five year-old son ...

It is for the same reason that people fear any change. Yes, the health care industry in this country is certainly in a sad state, any one with half a brain can see it is headed to even worse territory, and quick. What good does it do to have a service industry that provides a service at such an inflated cost that only a small percentage of the population they serve can actually afford it. ...

Glit... I agree with most of what you said... however, universal care, in other countries, is NOT like robbing peter to pay paul. We make universal healthcare work for LESS money than the American broken system costs now. Just look at the % of GDP that you spend on healthcare. That is what so many American's don't understand. They think the a universal system, like the REST OF THE WORLD...

Many people suspect that the exact same forces that have broken our health system are writing Obama's new system. The main difference between the new system and the old system is that with our current system, young healthy people are better off going "bald", that is, paying as they go for the care they need. The insurance companies, and the legislators that are beholden to the millions of...

Just to warn you, I am about to make a blanket statement and make many presumptuous conclusions on people in a broad group of society; and in no way do I mean to target everyone. I think it may be to a natural resistance to change, but moreso because baby boomers in the middle to upper class income levels see themselves as very deserving of what they have... and seem to believe that those ...

Jayhawk311. I am a baby boomer. I am not opposed to the notion of health care reform. I am skeptical about what is going on now, but whatever happens, I will make any necessary adjustments I can to ensure I receive good health care. To some extent, I agree with another poster who says baby boomers feel entitled. In certain ways, we do. We have had a similar experience as you regarding...

Do you folks really believe that our government cares about healthcare? How naive. This is about growing government and setting in place more government bureaucracies manned by employees now beholden to their job creators. ie; VOTE FOR ME if you want to work. Government should do what it is supposed to do under the constitution. We as a people should get off our lazy "you owe me something ...

I am a young person (under 30) with health insurance. I am reasonable healthy. I exercise daily. I eat right (compared to most Americans, yes I know that's not great). I do think there far too much misinformation with health care reform. I know what was like without health insurance. Everything cost an arm and leg. I never saw anything of those cash discounts people are always talking ...

i don't think anyone is opposed to health care reform, what they are opposed to is the current more government plan that the administration and dems have created currently. conservatives believe that government involvement is precisely the cause for some of the market and price distortions that appear in health care, and that further intervention will do even more damage in the end. ...

JayHawk311 said, "Why are so many Babyboomers opposed to health care reform?" Maybe because it seems like every time someone 'reforms' a medical system the people who lose the most are the ones that need it the most -- the disabled/special needs people, seniors, and the elderly. And it seems like young people think this is okay because they believe they will never be old or disabled. I ...

I agree with most of what has been said. And I also do not think anyone is against reform, they just want to make sure it is done right. So one idea I think would really help, would be to set up non-profit insurance organizations for the HealthCare industry so we are not paying out the *** to some for-profit insurance company... Now I am not going to through up a ton of numbers but lets ...

Morrison, You ask: "I don't understand; why do you think they do not want healthcare?? Do they want to be sick?" No. They want to remain alive. They want to remain healthy and strong. They want to remain free. You ask: "how about children born into poverty?" We already have SCHIP, courtesy of Senators Hatch and Kennedy. You ask: "Or should they continue to flood the emergency rooms."...

Pieces, I don't have to read any bill to know that when we break the back of the insurance companies we'll have a much better system. Moreover, there are at least two bills being considered, the House bill and the Senate bill. What's the use of reading either until they're combined into a final bill? You're wasting your time and blowing hot air.

"All you have to do is look at the Post Offfice, they continually raise rates and lower service.". One can say the same about Healthcare Insurance too - only the amounts are much larger. Why is it right when the Insurance Comapanies do it - and wrong when the govt. does it?

"So you think Obama is a terrorist-hugger instead of a tree-hugger? Then let us give credit to the Mexican government for their successful war against drug trafficking and Sec. Defense Bob Gates for cutting of the Golden Traingel. What do you think is the cause of this phenomenal drop in crime during an economic Depression? " Rachel, I think he is both a terrorist-hugger and a tree-hugger. However, I honestly didn't...

We are DEEP IN DEBIT, Medicare is going BROKE, Social Security is going BROKE. That's already unsustainable. What on Gods green earth makes you believe A Public Option won't go broke? I already pay over 50% on my money to State, Federal, Local, Cable, Phone, etc. etc. . There is a Tax on every Darn bill I get! Now I need to pay even more? So, what would you like me to give to this charity? I'll tell you, any more, and what...
