Hello Everybody. I've been natural now for a couple of weeks and now I'm starting to get discourage. Every morning when I wake up, my hair is so dry. I didn't experience this when I had a chemical fire cream, so why now. I have to put water on it every morning because regular moisturizers are not working. I use a leave-in conditioner called "Mixed Chicks" which works fine for a half a day....
Hi Kristen first of all congrats and dont get discouraged, its a learning process and we are here to help if we can. What are you washing your hair with? Maybe the leave in conditioner is adding in drying your hair out? What are the ingredients in it? Besides the leave in conditioner what else do you use? Are you just leaving it in an afro , or twisting it?
Also, are you sleeping on a satin pillowcase or with a satin bonnet?? Those things keep your hair from drying out while you sleep... if you still have a twa, I'd recommend co-washing (washing with conditioner) daily... This will help keep your hair moisturized... There's nothing wrong with using water as your moisturizer... Also, you may want to try spritzing your hair with a mixture of water ...
Mixed chicks has in both a cone and gel ingredients. I personally find it makes my hair dry too, probably because of the gel. This is why I use regular conditioner as a leave-in, I don't want any holding ingredients that are commonly found in leave-ins. Apart from aloe, any gel type ingredients leave my hair dry and tangly, so forget it. Gel (PVP) and cones are harder to wash out of your ...
Kristen, you're in the right place; don't give up! The start of a journey is sometimes the toughest. Here are some additional ideas. - We all have different hair characteristics; what works for 1 does NOT work for all. Experiment. - Consider trying out 1 or 2 products max at a time to learn how your hair responds. - Consider removing shampoos containing sulfates and petroleum and mineral oil-...

Kristen, my BC is fairly new and I've been trying out Mixed chicks as well. I agree it is drying. Are you using the shampoo and the deep conditioner with it or just the leave-in? I've discovered that for me, it works better if I put a different leave in (I usually alternate between Fructis Leave-In Conditioning Cream [about $5] or Kinky Curly Knot Today [about $12], then seal it with castor ...
I wash my hair with Organix Shea Butter shampoo (because it's sulfate-free) and condition it with the conditioner. I sleep with a satin bonnet, but still it's dry. I'm surprised on how my hair is behaving. My hair was so healthy when I had a perm, so I expected the same results. It is long enough to twist out now, I'm thinking of giving this a try tonight. I've been wanting to mix my own ...
I recommend Organix Tea Tree Mint conditioner, which is probably their most hydrating one I also recommend the new product by Garnier Fructisse called Triple Nutrition Undo Treatment. Its a 3 minute mask but I leave it in for 30 minutes. I have it in now as I type actually. It has avocado, shea, and olive oils to penetrate the inner, middle, and outer layers of the hair shaft. I use the ...

QUOTE It helps a little, but I still have a small afro. What are you expecting to have? You've gotten some good advice so far, but a product can't change what your hair ultimately is. Maybe some info/pictures on your hair would help as well. (IMG: style_emoticons/default/smile.gif )
