How about this one, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva, twice Olympic champion in TJ?
Quote: In 1959, Adhemar acted in the film Orfeu Negro, by French director Marcel Camus, which won the Golden Palm of the Cannes Film Festival and an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
I guess it depends on what you emphasize. Who is the best athlete to ever win an Oscar, Emmy or Tony award or who is the best actor/actress to ever win a gold medal, global championship, MVP, Cy Young, grand slam tennis event or a major golf event?

To me it's a no brainer, Jim Brown. Not only did Jim do as much or more on the playing the field with quality, but he also did more on the silver screen as well.
O.J. would have to be 2nd. Last edited by Speedfirst on Sat Nov 07, 2009 11:41 am; edited 2 times in total

I don't disagree with the first part of your statement, but the second part I take exception with. Brown isn't in the same league as Casey or Jones when it comes to acting, and bad hammy has named three more that I had forgotten about. Of course those folks couldn't...

We have had this discussion many times before. Don't forget Dennis Weaver, 6th in 1948 Olympic Trials Decathlon. And of course, Jim Thorpe who was in White Heat . And how could anyone not know who Buster Crabbe was? He was great on Saturday mornings in those old Flash Gordon episodes.
KDFINE wrote: anyone remember the name of the TV series that Bob Mathias was in? I remember him in a hard hat... IMDB says that Bob Mathias was in "Troubleshooters" (1959) . Turner Classic movies occassionally shows China Doll (1958) in which Mathias has a fairly major speaking part. He's surprisingly good. cman
