I searched and couldn't find a thread like this so I'll just make a new thread.
In my opinion there isn't enough attention payed to the quality of acting in films nowadays, going almost unmentioned in film discussions.
So let me start off the thread with my favourite actor, young Adrien Brody:
Adrien Brody
His extraordinary acting talent, intelligence, charisma and...
Don't really have one...
I like a massive range of actors and actresses.
Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Sean Connery, Patrick Stewart, Kate Beckinsale, Rose McGowan, Julie Dench... literally tons and tons.
Geez.... I love movies.
In recent times I think Dicaprio has done some great performances and I love Christopher Walken in pretty much anything he's been in. Actresses is trickier for me as it's tough not to assign them extra kudos for eye-candiness...
The two performances I've been most impressed with recently are
Carey Mulligan in An Education
Aaron Johnson in Nowhere Boy
Both young British actors, one male, one female.

She is brilliant, can't wait to see that. Only seen her in the Dr Who episode "Blink" but she was just fantastic in it. Same as when I saw Sophia Myles in "The Girl In ...
Edward Norton is an excellent shout! Brilliant in Fight Club, absolutely love that film!
I'd also say Robert Carlyle, thought he was really good in 28 Weeks Later, but was also excellent in Trainspotting, The Beach and The 51st State
EDIT: He was also amazing in the lesser known "Hitler: The Rise of Evil"
