Title pretty much says it all. Seems to do it when damp or raining. Truck has 58.5K miles on it. Pipes are still clean... Almost feels like the engine's "loading up". It hesitates and then when you look behind you - a smokescreen that KITT would be proud of! This happens when truck is warm, been running all day, not idling. Anyone else have this prob? Of course when I took it to dealer, ...
If you do a search you will find much info on this topic, but basically it is your truck starting a regen cycle when the DPF isn't up to temp so it is basically throwing all of the unburnt fuel out of the tail pipe. I would guess that your truck is a job 1 with the original computer program on it. This thing was addressed in future flashes.
my truck does it. I have never had clean pipes. i have the most recent flash that tells when the exhaust filter is being cleaned. there is nothing on display when my truck stumbles and smokes. i took it in 6 months ago and they found a code and solved the problem for about 3 months this summer. It started back about the same time as the regular exhaust got blacker. no codes this time. it ...
Goldfish, mine used to do that quite a bit but hasn't done it for a while now. Exact same thing, slow down to pay a toll or slow down for someone turning left in front of you and the truck would billow white smoke and spit and sputter. I did have the 08B07 flash done Oct. 23 and maybe that has some bearing on it. My pipes are also black and I can leave a trail of black smoke. I really think mine ...
It sounds like you have a Job 1 truck, as mine does the same thing on cold damp days, when the truck is in a regen cycle. It usually occurs during acceleration though and doesn't last too long.
I would be careful with flash updates from Ford though... We seem to be having a bit of "technical difficulty" with those right now!
Do you have any way to actively monitor your regen cycles? It ...
i have had 3 cleaning messages about 500 to 600 miles apart since ford reprogrammed my truck with 08B07. so the display is working, my performance has stayed the same as before reflash. still have black pipes(since day 1) and black smoke when pulling the 10k trailer. last summer ford reflashed the truck and; fuel mileage increased, less regens and less black smoke. no stuttering or white ...

skippydoo, I agree with you. It has nothing to do with regen. Mine hasn't done it in a while, but if it does, just back off the pedal and then back into it and it will straighten out every time.
I have a Job 2 w/ the latest flash (message center updated). I don't think it has anything to do w/ regen either. It does it as described above, when you slow on a highway, pay a toll, etc... It feels like the carb is loaded up. I am using this for reference only - I know that the truck doesn't have a carb, etc... That's just how it feels when its stumbles and smokes. I'll keep you all ...

Same deal here, I only get it when its raining. If I roll into it slowly nothing happens but if I dump the pedal it "loads" on fuel and pumps white smoke out the tail until I let off. It feels stumbly and like its overloaded with fuel. I brought it to the dealer and they found nothing. ? Makes it really hard to tow when it rains!
You guys ever hear anything back on this? Really looking forward to what you discover. __________________ 2008 Job 3 6.4 F250 Lariat CC 4x4 Dark Stone ATS Color Matched Street Flares Eaton ELocker "front" and Truetrac Limited Slip "rear" Spartanized 75, 150, 210HP
I've been wanting to do the same thing for a long time, just hasn't worked out yet. Another thing I'm wondering is what the heck did they change on the CAC??? Nobody has been able to tell me that either. If we knew that, we would be able to get an idea of what they were thinking. __________________ 2008 F350 SRW 4X4 Lariat, Crew Cab, SWB, 3.73 LSD
that sounds like a good problem to have. when you run spartan tune w/ the u know what delete, can the dealer tell the u know what has been reinstalled, b/c it looks likes its mounted in there by exhaust clamps rather than welded in. so when you take the spartan straight pipe off to reinstall the u know what for say an e check or dealer work, will it look suspicious?

Well i posted in this thread last year. I have had the issue since day 1. It is now in the shop getting a new CAC. I will be picking it up Monday Am and will be leaving for GA on Wendsday pulling a trailer. Every trip I have made up there is has acted up so it will be a true test. I will report back once I have results __________________ 2008 F-250 6.4 3.73 Lariat Crew Cab, 4X4, Sunroof, NAV etc. 2003 F-350 CC 6.0 4WD DRW 4.10 5 Speed...

Update: I took it in again, this time mainly because the TPMS sensors keep coming apart inside the tire (that'll be whole other post!) Anyway, they are going to replace the CAC per the TSB mentioned in this thread. I'm also going to get my second radiator. Looks like it'll be in the shop most of next week w/ the holiday and days off, etc... I'll let you all know the results when I get it back.
To fix the white smoke problem, Five Star Ford of Aberdeen just installed a new “Charge Air Cooler Assembly” into my F350 diesel. The part number is 7C3Z-6K775-B and the TSB for it is 08-25-1. They also installed a “Venturi Tee Kit into the Degas Bottle and Radiator Vent Hose.” I just picked up the truck so I don’t know if it has cured the problem or not. I’ll follow up in a couple...
My truck has 4.30:1 rear gears, it regens about every tank full, I am going to start using the B trip to keep track of it. I usually run 70 on highway, it averages 11-11.5 empty. If I get much over 70 mph it really starts to drop in fuel mileage. I am not sure how often my brother-inlaws truck regens, will have to ask him. __________________ 2009 F-450 Ranch King, CC, Dually, 4X4, LB. 1997 F-350 Powerstroke, 5-speed, CC, 4X4, LB, Programmer,...
