I'm looking to get a microphone for a 7D to shoot video. I don't have the camera yet, but I'm guessing the builtin one is "ok" but not all that good. I've zero'd in on the R0de VideoMic because I already have a R0de Podcaster for the programming courses I record with Camtasia and have found it to be are really good 'mic for the price.
Have any of you used the VideoMic and what do you think?...
A semi related question (I feel silly asking this): I hear many times about purchasing the seamless paper backgrounds at lowes or home depot, but when I stopped by today and asked the employee where it was he looked at me like I was crazy. Is it known by another name at these stores?
Thanks

See if any of these places are within driving distance and call them to see if they have what you want:

Also art supply stores may have what you want.
just bought a lightmeter off ebay. plan to buy strobes this fall. any good
tutorials out there on using light meters. I recently had trouble using the
in camera lightmeter on a bright day while the wedding party was in heavy
shade. any help ,,thanks
Using lightmeter while shooting with flashes during the daylight can be tricky.
Hint: cover the dome at least from the direct sun when metering your flash.
I usually shoot in RAW and adjust it afterwards.
If you are shooting in a relatively even and non changing lighting then a grey card or a white card would work well.

I'm getting around to trying something more adventurous now with my 7D video. I was a bit worried about the noise level in relistening to this vid because I noticed, espcially near the beginning and end, a very slight, periodic clicking noise. But it was the ticking of the clock in the other room, not noise , being picked up on the backside of the mic'. I do like my $100 stereo mic' Quote: Originally Posted by Dan7312 Here is a...

If you only use one it will work like a slave being fired off a preflash.
