It's not that Nanoha's a single mom, it's that Fate is a salarywoman of sorts, off on long job things a lot of the time. Nanoha, to contrast, has a more 9-5 position and probably takes a good chunk of her work home by this point, what with the almost addictive nature of Vivio's sheer cuteness.
