Thread: Whats the general opinion of those Ronco knives?

You know that one you always see on the infomercials, The big set of knives [ two sets of 25, Cleaver, steak knifes, boning, pearing, choppers, bread, etc etc ] for 40 bucks. Whats the general opinion of them, decent blades?

for $40 how could you go wrong?and for 2 sets it is damn cheap. but you get what you pay for. if i was to buy my mom knives id buy her something like that. for myself never. its like driveing a chevy cavalier compared to a ferrari compared with what i use. both do the job,but its all about how good the experiance is imo. in saying that cheap knives are cheap knives,no matter what ...

cutco makes an average knife at best. i dont want to bash what they make so much as what they charge for it. you do get a lifetime warrenty but you get that with ronco knives. this is my opinion but a knife just as good is the chicago cutlery but its general 1/2-1/4 the price. cutco charges high end prices but delivers an average knife that most generic companys offer. for cutco ...

wich knives you refering too? seriuosly i see nothing wrong with the ronco knives,unless you want higher quality. but that isnt cheap.

id say they are stamped yes. forging costs money,is why. i look at it this way,they are so cheap price wise and you get so many by the time you wear them out or break them all ronco will be out of business or they will be too old to even use one. until you get into the $100+ range you wont start seeing average quality sets and even then its a set of 6-8 knives and a block. $300 ...

this guy reviewed a ton of knives . of the 9 knives tested, the Cutco knife consistently performed the worst (and it cost $104). he talks on knife sets too, "Most of the time knife sets come with one or two good knives and the rest are not so good (that's why they put it in a set)." FWIW and this is just sexy:

My mom has a cheap $10 knife that she has been sharpening herself (She learned how to use a sharpening stone when she was little) and I swear up and down it is the best knife I have ever cut with. I'm guessing the handle end is about 5 times as heavy as the blade end and it feels so good in the hand. I bet she has had for at least 30 years.
