Thread: What year do you think the best E24 produced and why?
Started 1 year, 9 months ago by MaitreG
I think the best Six was produced in 1982 because of its simplicity, its suspension and not having all this oil leaking everywhere.
The 1989, because of its powerfull 3.5 engine and its fly by wire transmission when it works. Can do without the oil leaks and complicated front end.

Yes I know what you mean about the oil. I have an 88 that always seems to be leaking something, not much just annoying. and an 82 build date 11/81 that you could park in your living room and not worry about the rug.LOL
i think the 88 and 89 were the best, id prefer the 88 because the 89 had servotronic steering and harder and more expensive to get parts for it, but they have the bigger engine, smaller bumpers and nicer headlights, mine does not leak any fluids right now.
Personally its a tough choice, so im going to compromise on Wolfie haha. I like the B32 motor and lighter flywheel with the Burgundrot Metallic color that is not available on the 86+ cars. I also like that the 633's that are E28 based are a bit more rare because they were only made between 5/82 and some point in 84. But i like the world bumpers on the 88-89 cars....
I agree with the above, the 88's and 89's were nice, and so were the 81's, but c'mon, the best of the best were the '85 Euro M635! Big 286hp, first of BMWs powerful "M" cars, first with anti-lock brakes, small bumpers and of course, fast, fast, fast! I like all the E24s, but there is nothing as sexy as the Euros and nothing tops them like an "M"!!!...

M90 is a euro version of the M30 (12 valve engine), with a bigger bore, more...

If we ignore the M cars for htis vote then I'll add my voice to the E12-M90 combination. Great looks, excellent motor; I hear they're one heck of a ride. And the E12 is relatively shimmy-less, too.

But overall, I honestly doubt there is really a bad choice for any E24, be it a US model or Euro. The early Karman built cars are probably the weakest ones for durability due to rust issues. Also, the early US models had a tremendous amount of problems with emission control systems. On the plus side,...
