If you were imprisoned for 15 years and you met you captor, would you kill him then and there, or would you let him live temporarily to discover why he did it?

Basically, Oh Dae-su is a much better human being than you because he's not willing to gamble with another person's life (well, not another person who he cares about). What if you killed Woo-jin and, in turn, Mi-do wound up dying anyways because you thought you could save her when you don't even know what it is that you're saving her from ?
