Thread: What was with Dae-su Oh's reaction to Woo jin Lee's news *spoiler*

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by Bill_Buchanan
Fantastic film, but one thing bothered me slightly. When Dae-su flicks through the photo album and it's revealed what's been going on with his daugther, his reaction is to shoulder full responsibility, kiss Woo Jin's feet and cut off his tongue. Was this just the shock of finding out such news, or the fact he'd do anything for Woo Jin not to tell Mi-do the truth? Sure, he idley gossiped about ...

Does Dae Su really has any other option other than begging for mercy? He knows, and we know, that telling Mido the truth would completely destroy her, and Dae Su obviously doesn't want that. It's a painful scene to watch, but that's the point of it. ''Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you."

Yeh very valid point...I was thinking though that it would be in Dae su's nature to kill Woo Jin? That way, Mi-do would never have known the truth and he'd have killed the man he wanted vengeance on anyway,so i'm not sure why he didn't just do that instead of doing what he did, it would be in character for him to have killed him surely>? i'm the best at what i do...but what i do isn't very ...

No. You see, if he would have killed Woo Jin, no one would have stopped that one guy from telling Mi-do. He did know Woo Jin got it on with his sister too. He told, his friend. Then he told his friend not to tell anyone. Remember? But yeah, he was screwed. He had to beg Woo Jin not to tell Mi-Do. He wanted to kill him, but if he did Mi-Do would be guaranteed to know. Woo-Jin thought of ...

Wait....really? Look deeper, geesh...there's a second twist involving everything you just mentioned and more.

Thanks Bayger...there was a fair bit that i missed first time round but having watched it again, it does make sense..i still feel the sheer rage you'd have at finding that out would have lead to him killing Woo Jin anyway..i guess that's a testiomony to Oh Dae's character that he was thinking of Mi-Do's feelings at that time as opposed to his own (or maybe he was just repulsed and didn't feel ...

End of the day, you're always a father first. I think it was a testament to that. No matter how big and bad a monster Woo Jin made, he was a father first. Stand By For Action!

Which one are you referring to? I leaned on the wall - the wall leaned away.

Look at all the motions he went through, at the end of it he knew had no way out but to beg. He goes from remorse to anger to begging in the course of one scene. I think it was a brilliant scene and wonderfully performed by Choi Min Sik.

At least in the English subtitles, there's no direct indication that ANYONE knew the high-school lovers were related to each other (except the lovers themselves knew it). from the end of the high-school flashback: "Was it really Soo ah? Are you sure? I don't know her name All I know is that she's in your room (classroom), and she rides a red bike. Have a good trip See you in Seoul if...

Dae-Su SO did not want his daughter to find out they had been intimate. He would have done anything.
