Hey all,
I'm looking at buying a runabout for around the 10k mark.
I would like a coupe such as a Porsche 944. Possibly a Mercedes or there abouts.
However, there are quite a few cars that I'm thinking could be options.
MGF, they look crappy but mid engined and rear wheel drive is tempting.
Nissan 300zx, have heard they have issues but not sure whether they're verified stories.
...
what about the r32 skyline?
4 pot brakes, reasonable driveline, simple cheap mods will get you 250hp at the rear wheels. infact for around 10k you should easily get one with that power.
944 would need to be a turbo or 3.0l imo so could be out of your price range.
This may sound silly but a mate of mine has a r32, so I don't want one.
I don't really care for speed that much, more handling and of course looks which I believe the 944 is a key player in.
i had a 944s2 they look so much better than the common 2.5l & 2.7l 944's.
if you can handle the look of the smaller engined 944's go for one of those otherwise look for an early 944 turbo

With $10k to spend you could get yourself several E30s... or one really nice one and then get a bunch of work done on it - you could build yourself a brilliant E30 for that sort of money.
(For that matter, $10k can get you an E36 coupe these days...)
You could get a decent non-oval dash 944 for $10-12K. The chassis on the 944 is excellent and would make a very decent track car. As pointed out above, though, the S2 is the daddy of the NA 944s. Early model turbos are excellent and they mod particularly well. You won't land one for $!0K, however. The sleeper in the group would be the 924S: basically a 924 with 944 running gear in them. More ...

you should be able to get a 944 for that price but as ade said it'll probably be an early 2.5 litre jobbie. not that there's anything wrong with that, still a great car, they're just not as good as the later ones.
if you do go down the 944 route though make sure you get a good one because some things on them are pretty damn expensive to fix
and yeah you could build a really good e30 for ...
