Thread: What religion is Joaquin?

Started 2 months, 3 weeks ago by noisy_bunny
I know that when he was a baby his family were stuck in that sick cult, and that when he was a kid they were pretty hardcore Christians, but what about now? What does he believe in now?

I think that what Joaquin truly believes and what he is willing to share with the press often differ. That said, he could've been being honest, but like his "I don't prepare, I just show up and read lines," facade, he distances the media from the truth. "Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kinds of questions I don't want to answer."

I was going to leave this topic alone, having recognised that his sentiments about religion echo my own and I am therefore biased because they make me admire him more, but I just have to post his actual words because it's one subject he seems passionate about. This is from Nylon, Winter 2008: "I don't believe in God. I don't believe in an afterlife. I don't believe in soul. I don't believe ...

I've recently been saying, "Better an atheist than a $cientologist." I've pretty much given up on Christianity b/c it's so judgmental although theological studies continue to interest me. In the Far East and in the Ancient Greco-Roman empire, sex and religion are one. That's quite fascinating! No matter what Creation myth you study, there's always sexual overtones to them. It doesn't take a ...

They are very beautiful paintings, Strab. I particularly like the Fowler one; it looks Pre-Raphaelite. I've never heard of Robert Fowler, though apparently he was from Fife in Scotland so I should have!

Hester!!! thank you for bringing up the wise words of Bill and Ted. i have been trying to stay out of this thread too, cos i don't give a sh^t what Mr Phoenix believes (as long as his beliefs don't cause harm to others.. which covers the Scientology protests.. amirite, Strab?) but, you know, i've grown up in a country where my town's been blown up twice by big ass bombs because of religion. ...

I always thought veganism was his religion in a way. He'd likely worship Gaia,I think: www.icon.co.za/~heinl/gaia.htm Democracy: An Idea So Crazy,it ACTUALLY Worked!

I know what you're saying,Jen. I really hate it when someone tries to push their religion as the "right" one. They view everything, esp. morality,in black and white "I am one who has no tale to tell. I made a gallows of my own doorway." --- Dante's Inferno

What makes you atheists messed up is that you can't simply live your life and not allow other people's faith to bother you so much, but you do. It wasn't a big crowd of singing atheists who tried to stop me seeing a play they disapproved of. What's that quote about not casting the first stone cos you might live in a glass house? Or have I mixed my metaphors?

What makes you atheists messed up is that you can't simply live your life and not allow other people's faith to bother you so much, but you do. And then you get all mad about it, throw a hissy fit(especially when you see a religious symbol somewhere that really has no affect on your life), and then you put people down for believing in "fairy tales." That sort of language incites anger, and you're responsible...

Correct metaphor. And for the record extremist anything is not a good thing. As a Christian I get offended along with you that people would use their religion to stop people from attending a play, or a rally or anything else. Religion is often used as an excuse to back up bad behaviour - and it's neither Godly or biblical. Remind people of that next time they try to stop you! "People Shouldn't be Bought and Sold - Stop the...

I quite agree with your "honest atheist" remark, Ambrosia. Fear is a poor reason to support a religion.

If you can't prove something exists, then it doesn't exist. Don't say 'prove that god doesn't exist' because my simple reply yet sufficient would be 'It is physically impossible to prove the existence of something non-existent.' So unless you, or someone that agrees with you, can bring me tangible proof of the existence of god or life after death, don't say 'the only concrete evidence lies...
