What have you done for your E24 lately?
Interested in what all you "6-lovers" do with your time spent with your baby(s). Please bare with me and my hundred something newbie questions. Its such a learning experience for me, I LOVE IT!
I have to upgrade all my home building tools to SIX building tools!
I have been doing little stuff here and there to rejuvenate it a bit. Stripping and respraying metal parts that were rusting (blower motor cover, headlamp buckets, will be continuing on to the airbox soon). Doing my best to de-grease the engine bay, but this may take more than a toothbrush and Simple Green! Since I'm back at my folks place for the weekend and have ...
Neglect.
It's parked mostly but I do try to get it out of the garage and share the pavement with my E12. The E12 is a much more intense ride so I naturally gravitate towards it when I need to go somewhere. But there are times I just want to sit back and enjoy the ride with class and comfort, I pick the E24 everytime.
No upgrades or mods planned but lots of ...
Flushing the cooling system trying to stabilize the temperure before I install my new 82 expansion tank. Will need to pull the tranny out one more time to find out where this hissing noise is coming from. I may just install a new clutch, bearing and pressure plate to go with my new center bearing and seal. This time I will make sure that the tranny is spotless before...
I've been working on a megasquirt install since december, that turned into a timing chain replacement, that turned into "oh well since its apart, I might as well drop in some hi power cams" that turned into all the valves are bent and the head needs to come off. Now its going to the back of the project list. Oh well I had fun driving it for a month (bought it in ...
First is to put a concrete floor and roll up door on my new garage (just bought a house in march) so I can stop paying the rent at the sotrage place that just went up 50% (where the 6er is now).
Then I have massive amounts of assorted home remodeling (house was built in 1949).
At this point my list gets kind of skewed and maintains no order, but includes things...
Just wanted to provide an update on my buffalo hide. After going through a complete rejuvination with great results from the Leatherique products, I noticed that after about a 4-5 weeks of non-care, I could see irregularities in the hides appearance. I'm guessing the hide is again slowly drying out, even when in protective quarters. It looks like its going to be an ongoing fight to keep my ints in great condition. I treated the front...
In preparation For Shark Fest & just maint., adjust valves, replace tires, dist cap & rotor, plugs (WR9LS), Oil & filter, used stainless exhaust, 02 sensor, 1 motor mount, low beams & other items, have to check my records. Installed BavAuto lowering springs, but I'll be going back to stock. I just don't care for also lowering my oil pan with the springs.
It's December, and in Kentucky, that means, cold. With the old m30, start ups can be a dangerous thing to try in below freezing temps. My cars stay outside and it gets bitter cold every once a while. My power steering pump has been boo-hooing a lot, and as a reflection of what type of car I drive, I can't have just any crybaby. I don't get pissed and I dont get sorrowed, but what I do do is get embarassed. Also I have a 5 speed...

I prefer mid-day weekend driving when roads are much less busy and its too hot to go anywhere but the beach! My drive is about 15min on the highway and 15 min in the...
I did a basic check-up today as well DJ. Pumped up the tires (including the spare). Checked all the fluids except for the gearbox. Ill be swapping fluid out for that probably pretty soon. I think the 75w90 is a bit much. First gear is being a real pain. 2nd hasnt been a real problem yet though. Also gave the car a good wash. Next weekend will be a big one. 3.73LSD, Trailing arm bushes, dog bones, subframe bushes, trans fluid swap. Any good...
Removed the majority of the exterior trim, bumpers and lights. Started sanding through the paint to see where I need to make small repairs... Gotta get everything sorted to plug the side marker holes in the quarter panels and find a good passenger side fender. Still need to finish building a new rear valence too... Once that's all done I'll be shooting sealer and primer! Shipper, got any pictures?
Just pulled and rebuilt the power steering pump on my M6 last weekend. Parts were $54 vs. $350 for a rebuilt pump from Pelican. We'll see how it holds up long term, but so far so good. Jose
That's cool. It's amazing what the right mats can do for the interior vibe. When I replaced my el cheapo universals with correct 6er floormats (with BMW logo), it was like a new car. It really surprised me.
I deleted the rear muffler on my 633 the other day. I had a friend of mine that owns a shop weld up 2 2.5" straight pipes in place of the rear factory muffler (that had a large hole rusted in the inlet side of the muffler). Factory cat and resonator are still in place. It is indeed loud, but I like it. Very raw sounding, drones a bit on the highway in 5th gear between 2100 and 2500 RPM. I'm sure most of you wouldn't like...
