Thread: What happened to my T56 transmission?

Well basically I knew the syncro's were on the way out, It's been slightly grinding gears for about a year now... I've been babying it into gear, but today i went to shift into third then had no gears whatsoever. I can feel the driveshaft engaging/disengaging, but no matter what gear it is in the car does nothing. Didn't make a single noise or anything...

Sounds like your synchro keys broke. or you lost the plastic pads on the shift forks or both! Time for a tear down and rebuild!

Would that cause it to be in "neutral" for every gear including reverse? It just does nothing, and makes no noises at all which is weird.

HOLY CRAP! Every gear????????? That my friend sounds like you broke either the trans output shaft or something in the differential. I failed to read every gear the first time I read your post. No real easy way to troubleshoot this other than breaking down the drive train. Try this. Jack up the car and place on FOUR stands. HAve someone shift through the ...

what you are refering too is a faceplated trans. you still have to use the clutch though other wise you will break the trans shifting under power! the way people shift with out the clutch on a faceplated trans is to set a rev limiter at your shift point and shift when it hits it (not touching the clutch). It will go into gear not under power beacuse the rev limiter pulls enough...
