In the film both Harry and Luna mention hearing voices from the veil. Hermione states she hears no voices. WHEN I honestly, am impressed by your resilience to act stupid, it's astounding. I read Order of the Phoenix a while back, but was watching the film last night and couldn't remember if the Ministry explained exactly what that archway was. I know he was dead after getting Kedavra, but where did his body go?

The only thing that comes close to an explanation in the book is Dumbledore referring to the room it's in as the "Death Chamber." So apparently it's some kind of portal to the great beyond.
