ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE - D omg, this is like one of the lamest, most pointless movies i've ever seen. it's like just an excuse to showcase some hot-looking teens but they don't get much to work with anyway.

Where The Wild Things Are- ****1/2 out of 5. (or an A-) Spike Jonze has done it. For me, this film was far more emotional and resonant to childhood memories than the book could ever be, and I say that with much love for Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book. This is indeed a film about what it is like to be a kid, not exactly a "kids movie". I watched it with my two younger brothers (one is...

Also, the score and songs by Karen O and Carter Burwell are excellent, and fit the film perfectly. Major props to the art direction, set design, costume design, visual effects (the faces on the wild things WOW'd me), and cinematography, all are top notch!

The September Issue, A- This was an engrossing look into the lives of the Vogue women, right up my alley because I do love fashion and getting all gussied up! The film has been criticized by some for being a little too reverential toward Anna and girls and not probing deeply. But I thought it covered good ground. Any my, don't the girls looked exhausted, etched in wrinkles, so much so that I ...

An Eudcation, A- This lovely British film reminds me of the kitchen sink dramas of Mike Leigh like Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake and Happy Go Lucky. Plucky Brits with their dry humor making me chuckle at their shenanigans. In this case, Cary Mulligan meets up with suave older man Peter Saarsgaard (husband of Maggie Gyllenhaall - frick these names become quite hard to spell after a botle of wine)/...

THE ACCIDENTAL TOURIST (1988) I wasn't exactly expecting a masterpiece when I watched this Lawrence Kasdan feature tonight, but I did not except such a boring, mundane and altogether lifeless film as the one I saw. William Hurt plays Macon Leary a fairly boring man who writes travel guides for other boring business men who travel a lot. He is married to Sara, played by Kathleen Turner, but ...

Can someone PLEASE explain to me why Geena Davis won the Oscar for Accidental Tourist ??? This is one Oscar win that I just don't understand. Was it because 1988 was a big year for her? I watched Working Girl last week and I can't believe both Sigourney Weaver AND Joan Cusack (who were both outstanding) lost the Oscar to Geena Davis that year. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. I ...

Well, not sure I deserve the attention, but I appreciate it - my heavy screening period is beginning, more heavily starting next week I'd guess. I did like, though not love, 500 Days of Summer (wrote briefly about it on its thread). My posts will be more about Oscar chances, but it will be hard for me to keep my opinions silent.

After your ridiculous description of anal sex, we can now safely ignore your opinions on everything else, including this great movie. I'm not so sure I've had more anal sex than you, Pucifer, but I'm sure as hell I've had more good anal sex than you. You see, I actually get to pick and...

Push Paul McGuigan, 2009 Rated PG-13 meaning no sex (Chris Evans remains fully clothed, demand your refund now) but lots of violent, creative deaths. Evans is a leading contender for Sexiest Man 2009 but that annoying screen star personality of his is some kind of poetic justice. Great production values (including cinematography, editing, stunts, special effects, and sound) try hard to distract from underdeveloped screenplay and gaping...

The only thing hurting Carey is her lack of screentime (only 10-15 minutes), and both she and Patton lack one of those "Oscar...

I remember thinking how/why would five Academy Award winners star in an awful dreck like Four Christmases ? Of course, the answer is money, but you don't have to star in something THAT bad to make the big bucks... or at least I would hope not

LOL! I didn't know Webster's dictionary changed the definition of paranoid to defending yourself, which people on this thread do all the time. This message has been edited. Last edited by: bottomchef , November 08, 2009 11:26 PM
