Thread: What 1 thing do you wish you could make that you don't know how?

Started 8 months, 3 weeks ago by Admin frugalmama
What is the one thing that you wish you could make well, but you really don't know how? I'd say potato salad...I just haven't found the recipe that tastes like the ones I LOVE in the store. I'm still working on it though. Egg Rolls come in 2nd--I LOVE Egg Rolls, but mine don't taste like my favorite brand's either!

a good steak! Mine always seem to tough. (so I rarely buy any) I think they would be better on a grill, but DH refuses to get a grill.

Gyros. The kind at the gyro places is so good, but when I buy what is labeled 'gyro' meat at the grocery store it just isn't the same.

Quiche! For some reason mine always comes out too loose (almost raw) in the center, no matter what recipe I use or how much longer I cook it than the recipe says to.

Yeast rolls. I love my mom's sourdough biscuits, but I'm not very good with yeast dough. Laurie--I use Paula Deen's potato salad recipe, and we all love it. It won't taste like the kind you buy, but it is very good! http://www.pauladeen.com/recipe_view/66

I love the regional questions. I really do because I see questions and think who does not now how to make that and then I read something else and I do not even know what it is so how would I ever even think to know how to make it so I try a lot of new recipes. LOL. I make southern style potato salad Potatoes Eggs Diced sweet pickles or sweet relish Add some of the juice from the ...

Fried chicken. I just can"t make the batter/breading come out all perfect like KFC. I always end up with huge blown up breaded monstrosities, or the breding just gets greasy and soggy.

I do think potato salad is better after it chills for a bit and the potatoes will absorb some of the mayo so you may need to add a little more. I would rather add a little more later than add too much at first and it turn out soupy.
