Thread: Wedding Welcome Bags-What Would You Include?

Started 2 years, 2 months ago by Meg2926
We are getting married on the Big Island in February and the majority of our guests are staying at the Royal Kona. We wanted to put together welcome bags for each room for our guests as most of them have never been to Hawaii before. We don't want to spend more than $10-$15 per bag and are thinking we want to include pamphlets of things to do during their stay as well as some other little fun ...

Fun! I would go down to your lobby at the RKR and pick pamphlets based on each persons likes, they have a major rack of them in the lobby. I love the other items you have selected. -Mac Nuts -Apple Bananas -Bird of Paradise stem -Straw Mat to unroll and lay on the sand

Hi Meg. We are getting married on the BI in March and are doing welcome bags too. Here are our ideas: Map of the BI marked with the pertinent wedding locations 101 Things to do on the BI 101thingstodo.com/hawaii/bigisland/index.php Hawaiian bottled water. I think there are a few. Here is one. http://www.hawaiianspring.com/ Chips and pineapple salsa...

Liking the ideas so far! Keep 'em coming!!! I just put together a document of 20 things to do while on the BI that include all the appropriate phone numbers to accompany some of those pamphlets that seem to be everywhere! What about small bags of Kona coffee?

I would check the brochures when you land --- tons of brochures in the luggage area of the airport. Help yourself ... that what they are there for. Check out an ABC Store or Whalers General Store. Pick up cans of macadamia nuts and other goodies there. This would get a little expensive, and I don't know if you could get them via mail - but Sgt Leisure (the store) in Maui...

lots of good ideas! Small bags of real Kona coffee will cost too much. It sells for $22--$30 a pound. Kona BLEND is junk, a waste of money, mostly South American which completely overwhelms the Kona. Suggest a lotion or body wash-- coconut, plumeria, tiare, mango, etc.. Aromatherapy that says you are in the islands. Not sure if you will be up to Kohala area before ...

I was at a wedding recently where the out of town guests received a collapsible cooler (instead of a regular bag) that was filled with all the goodies. The guests could use the cooler to take drinks along with them to the beach or on day trips and then fold it up and take it home.

The shell leis you get free at Hilo Hatties are fun -you can buy 12 at ABC stores for $6.99. www.abcstores.com/browse.cfm/4,1190.htm Maybe you can create t-shirts for everyone coming to the wedding and include those. designashirt.com/custom-t-shirts/…227.html

The problem with the shell lei's at Hilo Hatties is that they are made in the Philippines ...lol You could swing by Costco to make a bulk purchase of mac nuts & other island treats. The prices aren't always better than a Walmart sale but they are usually better than ABC. Walmart has kukui nut leis that are more distinctive than the shell leis. Also, if you look in the ...

What great ideas! I would add the suntan lotion evne if some people may be picky - it's still a nice touch. I would also add some tea bags. When we visit the BI (yearly) we always bring home a supple of passion fruit tea bags. The pineapple and mango tea is also good but passion fruit is my favorite. You could buy a box and then put a few tea bags into each welcome bag. As for the mac nuts -- ...

Meg, You can find Passion Fruit tea lots of places from Hilo Hatties to Longs and Safeway. The brand I like best is from Hawiian Island Tea Company ( www.hitea.com ). This past June we bought it at a general store in the Kings Shops.

I agree that you have to include the chocolate covered mac nuts-I am drooling just thinking about them. What about including some postcards? That way, they would have a reminder of the BI or mail them family/friends that are not there.

I'd add microwave popcorn for late-night munchies, and a small scented candle in case the hotel room air feels stale. Sometimes even the nicest places can smell a little funky!

HOw about Big Island Candy cookies. They come individually wrapped so you could buy a few boxes and put a few in each bag. They are made there on the Big Island. I second the tea. Think also lotion, there are several kinds made in Hawaii although my favorite is the Vanilla farm kind.
