GH has way better songs and has a challenging edge to it, and there are tons of GH games for the wii, that can be used with all the same controllers

Rock Band 2 is perhaps the better option for this reason only: It has a much bigger variety of songs. Here is the best way to do it: Buy the Guitar Hero World Tour or later instruments, because they will work on ANY Guitar Hero game, Rock Band 2 and Beatles games for the Wii. I have GHWT and absoloutely love it, as does my younger brother.

Rock Band 2!

Rock Band 2 is better. All the modern Guitar Heros have drums, guitar, bass, and vocals now. Those include Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero Smash Hits, and Band Hero.

Guitar hero is totally separate. I much, much prefer rock band 2 to GHWT. I think that Guitar Hero spends a lot more money on advertising so it has a more popular name, but Rock Band 2 is way more fun. The old guitar hero games will have only the guitar part, each hero/band game is its own separate entity.

I would like this to be fun for the whole family, with a big variety of songs. Is it possible to play any or all Guitar Hero games with the Guitar Hero World Tour? Or will they not have the drums and the lyrics, just the guitar part?

Well, personally I would buy the instruments and game for World Tour, since it is compatible with Rock Band 2 (only 2)
