Creatures of Hard Media
Why did Vaudeville die? Face it, it was a starving medium from the start. How many jugglers, dog acts, and skits can you watch before you get tired of the same thing? Did movies really kill Vaudeville? Probably. Why pay a few dozen people to perform each night when you can get the movie from the studio, entertain ...

I only disagree on the theaters in my experience sometimes people just want to leave there house, the theater provides a quiet, air conditioned place to watch a quality cinema at a price in some areas that is cheaper then renting a movie.
It gives you the ability to walk away from your life, almost like video games and enjoy something without worring about your boss, or did I finish that ...

I believe they played music from wax cylinders on a Victor Talking Machine, not a Victrolla. The Victrolla came later with wax discs.

Tron3, Is there anything I can do to stop illegal downloads? One of my favorite pastimes was flipping through CDs and DVDs at every store I came across, in the mall, department stores, music stores and even my local grocery store. I used to visit a Tower store in San Diego, which is a city that has many music listeners. I sadly say 'used to' because it closed. Not enough people were buying their CDs or DVDs. Hats off to the Mods...

Of course it's not gonna sound as good as a CD, which has the full, uncompressed PCM audio. Uncompressed audio...

Another reason that I don't download movies anymore. My coworker got a cease and dissest letter from his ISP today from nbc/universal because he downloaded a movie a couple weeks ago. lame.
I am getting more and more into a mix of digital and hard copy for my movies. Movies that I plan to watch over and over, I definitely want on disk that so I can watch it anytime and anywhere. For something I plan to watch once maybe twice, it's cheaper and easier to just have a digital copy that is cheap and easily removed. I view digital as more of a rental versus ownership and have been using it as such. I've found that both...
