According to an Associate Press report , the passing of the referendum will allow domestic partners to additional rights previously only given to...

Glad it passed; a big victory for equality for all in the state.

Senator Murray:
"Today is a great day of celebration for the tens of thousands of gay and lesbian families in Washington, and for anyone who supports equality in our state and around the country.
"While it felt like a crushing blow this fall when R-71 received enough signatures to make the ballot, at the time I expressed my faith that Washington voters would uphold the ...
What I agree with the cons on, is that this should be a state-mandated issue.. let individuals states interpret what they see fit, concerning same-sex unions and such... It would be a more decentralized bottom-up approach to advancing civil rights (not just in this issue, but civil liberties as a whole..) across the nation. I think decentralization of federal power, and state sovereignty in politics and laws is a very good thing, INSOFAR as it doesn't allow individual states to infringe on the civil liberties of individuals and minorities in those states. A better question perhaps should be framed as: Should civil rights be put to the ballot in the first place? Although I, as a WA State voter voted...

Not in a Nation that prides herself, supposedly, on Equality. Faile social experiments should never be ressurected. So you'd rather reject civil unions, in hopes of getting gay marriage in spite of its political difficulty?
What I understood by reading stuff on this issue on the internet was that the proposal came from conservative anti gay organisations in the hope that the proposal got rejected. Am I correct in this or not? Because I found it quite confusing.
