The 2nd time I watched this film I got the impression that Mr. White and Mr. Orange had a gay thing for each other. It looked weird the way Mr. White was caressing Orange after he was shot and how the two talked to each other throughout the film - the guys barely knew each other and it definitely looked a little beyond just being "good friends".
There are also a few other hints - in the scene ...
Criticandactivist, my take on it all is that the two are portrayed as having a father/son relationship. Had Mr. White and Orange actually been related by blood and you saw White caressing his face, I can pretty much gaurantee, imo, that you wouldn't blink an eye.
However, if the two were gay I really don't see anything wrong with it [other than the wierdness of the age difference]
There's a lot of male bonding between Mr. White and Mr. Orange of the kind you get when two people are together in a very stressful situation. Mr. White does seem to have adopted a fatherly role.
Although it's possible one or both of them was gay, I don't see anything sexual in the film.
Well dude, why did Tarantino have Mr. White tell Joe Cabot "I gave up on women" in the scene right after the warehouse scene? Everything happens for a reason. I don't see why he'd have included that line unless it was a gay innuendo, but that's just me.
You made the mistake, criticandactivist, of saying that Mr. White changes his story. He tells Pink he told him where he was from a few days ago and he told him his name when he got shot and his story doesn't change once.
I thought it was very innovative of Tarantino to portray what most people would call gay and poofy as being very cool (namely two friends who have genuine care for eachother ...
I don't think it's really a father/son thing - James Woods was Tarantino's original choice for Mr Orange, and he wasn't far off Keitel's age at that time. Joe and Mr. White had a father/son relationship, and Mr. White instantly took Mr. Orange's word, a guy he's known for less than a week, over Joe's.
And obviously, Eddie and Joe are father and son, and Joe also has a fatherly relationship with...
Since Mr. White was a career criminal and I'm sure had seen people die before, it was definitely strange that he was so protective of Orange, seeing as the two hadn't even known each other except for a few days. Just my take anyway.
LOL, I think Keitel and Roth commented on this at one point or another. As did 'He Died With a Felafel In His Hand' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0172543/quotes (Heh, and Mr Pink! 'I'm sure it was a very beautiful scene.') I don't think it's an interpretation that is iron-clad either way, it's definitely all stuff that you can choose to dismiss or not, but I could see it. They're awfully attached to...
