Thread: Want to start running...need encouragement

Started 6 months, 3 weeks ago by Claudine1975
I work out at Curves 4 times a week and the Fri-Sun I walk about 3.5 miles in about an hour each day. I am ready to start moving a little bit more as the walk is fun (hills and all) but the challenge is gone. I want to run. Something I thought I would never say in a million years. At 280 pounds I never had a hard time strutting myself in a swimsuit and lying out by the pool or beach. For ...

Claudine~ Go for it! I started the C25K this past winter and loved it. Don't worry that people are looking at you - they aren't! If they are running, they are thinking about their run and if they are your neighbors to heck with them! I just run on by and don't worry about it. Heck, you have to be lookin' great if you are down to 195! Turn on your podcast and get started, you will be so glad ...

As you get older you get more confidence in yourself and worry less about what others think, but running in public is a daunting thought! When I was 18 or so, I used to run regularly, I was a bit bigger than I am now, at the top of my healthy weight range but I thought I was huge, lol. I used to run only early morning or late at night. I wouldnt run in the daylight for anything. Nowadays, ...

I started the c25k program 4 weeks ago. It's been awesome. I've been doing it at the gym on a treadmill. As the saying goes, "Just Do It"! You'll be amazed how much fun it becomes. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I did it today. I walked/ran for about 4 miles and it was great. I now see how addicting running can be. I can't believe that I am actually running!!

Congrats on just "doing it"!!! I also want to run -- but as you can see by my ticker -- I am significantly larger than any of you. Should I just wait until I'm a more normal size?? Actually, that is one of my goals. To be able to run - just really "run" - (and not jiggle and flip-flop like crazy of course!) :o)

You ROCK! Running is what saved my life, I am convinced! I started running three months after my surgery and haven't stopped yet. Keep at it! It will do wonders for your self-esteem AND your body! Remember "The miracle is not that I had the courage to finish, but that I had the courage to START"

Re: Want to start running...need encouragement permalink Bill you rock! I am so excited for you and yes, I will follow you on twitter! That is pretty cool that they are doing updates - how fun is that. I wish they would do that for marathons, my DH runs and it would be nice to know at what point he is so I know when and where to meet him along the course! I need to get my fanny back out and running. Starting school back up has put a cramp in...

Good going Ebonyrose! This morning I was all pumped about my run and my iPod was not charged . Instead if pouting about it. I decided to run as much as I can for as long as I can with OUT music. I ran for about 95% of 2.2 miles. I only stopped twice for about 45 seconds. I was so proud of myself Running without musics and with minimal breaks. Keep up the good work everyone!

Well after recently finishing the c25K program, yesterday I finally went and ran on the road. It was a far different experience from the treadmill. I did pretty good completing 3 miles in 32:27 -- my best time yet! I plan on running a 5k race in September and another in October so I will try to mix in more road runs. Keep up the good work everyone! :)

lol at "wogging". My DH kindly called it joggling. Not that he managed to get off his ass and do any. Pretty easy to be an armchair critic, hey?

Claudine- I'm also over my "what if someone sees me". Matter of fact, one of the neighbors did a double take today when they saw me running. I just looked the other way - lol. Congrats on moving to week 2! I'm still on week 1 because I'm too scared I can't do week 2. I'm literally out of breath and I know I shouldn't be. Did you do week 1 for just the one week?

Re: Want to start running...need encouragement permalink congrats on starting your running addiction...My only suggestion is make sure to run with proper form...Always focus on your from because as soon as you start getting tired the form goes out the window and before you know it you have an injury. I am currently training for a half marathon....its however a cross country run and its at 6500 ft in elevation. Definately a great challenge....
