Thread: Waiting for the Maine gay marriage vote

Started 1 month ago by iggie394
I hope my home state does me proud and defeats this referendum. People have turned out in droves to vote, which could be a good thing for saving gay marriage there.

Well we need Referendum-71 to PASS here to preserve gay rights. I am on pins and needles. And we won't start seeing returns for another 2 hours or so.

50%-50% with 28% precincts reporting ---- this is going to be way too close.

iggie394 replied 1 month ago
Hopefully the ones reporting so far are the northern Maine conservative towns...

Damn, it's not looking good. This is a sad night for marriage equality and, well...equality in general.

It will be a shame to lose Maine, but ultimately it is New England and I think the tide could turn swiftly, within a few years. It's still close, and if it does pass, then there will be a lot of pissed-off Mainers who will only redouble their efforts. BUT... some good news. Referendum 71 is passing right now in Washington State. It's narrow: 51% to 49% (50% reporting), and going relatively ...

FWG, it's wonderful to have that good news but it's sad that there is bad news along with it. I'm still holding out for the time where we can celebrate the passage of gay rights nationally.

I am happy for Washingtonians! And I am very sad for Mainers, and the nation, and I am wicked disappointed in my home state.

What a great idea -- no vote for a couple of years! In Maine the asshats were running ads saying that if there was gay marriage then gay marriage would be taught in schools, and that this is the beginning of "their" agenda. Fuckers

"Dyed-in-the-wool" is, I think, what you mean. I, too, am running out of patience with Obama. Then again I never supported him to begin with. I was Hillary all the way. I have fundamental disagreements with Obama on higher education funding, something that happens to be close to my heart. I could prattle on about other issues, but I am likely to have a coronary if I get started. Heh.

FWG, what are you talking about? Several states have added amendments to their constitutions declaring that marriage is only between a man and a woman. Missouri, embarrassingly enough, is one of them.

I see! Actually they did try to organize but there can't be a vote for a couple years because of some law or something, yada yada yada. So it may come up then but hopefully by the time that rolls around people will have seen that it's not a big deal, nothing to get upset over, life continues on exactly as before. Interesting to now see same-sex marriage announcements! Congrats, Adam and Clayton!!!

I'm hoping this election will be a wake-up call for Obama and Congress, that they need to just get off the stick and get some of the things done, that were promised. I heard the other day, that Obama is very concise in his decision making and doesn't do anything without a whole lot of thought. While for the most part, that's a good trait, I really do feel that he needs to start kicking some Republican ass at this point. They are...

I remember The Santa Clause. It's a cute movie. I think they should make it so that if you hate gays, you have to become gay. Like, you become "legally gay." That would be a HOOT.
