Thread: WEDDINGBELLS Message Board Community: wearing your own gown

By any chance did any of you bring your own delivery gown? I am considering doing that just to be comfortable in what I am wearing. Did any of you do that? If so, where did u get it from?
I wore a nursing nightie/housecoat set I had received for Christmas from Motherhood maternity. It did make me feel thatmuch better wearing my own clothes as opposed to a blue sack. Keep in mind that you yank that thing off every 5 seconds for exams and nursing
I brought my own stuff but stayed in the hospital gown and was really glad I did. Labour and delivery was really, ahem, *messy*. I ended up staying in the hospital 4 days and it wasn't until the 3rd or 4th day that I wore my own gown because I was confident at that point that I wasn't going to bleed on it (sorry TMI).
You could bring your own just in case you decide to wear it. But it seems most people end up in a hospital gown....whether they thought they would or not. You just don't care what you are wearing and the gown is roomy with easy access for poking/proding. Plus the mess factor. Why get your own stuff stained/ruined??
Wasn't at the hospital, but did wear my own clothes (obviously, since I was home) and I definitely would if I went to hospital too. Just wore some comfy pjs and they did not get stained. I know people talk about birth being messy, but I didn't find it that way. I mean, obviously there is blood and other fluids, but everyone was quick about cleaning it up.
I wore my own clothes both times. I had on a very comfy, large mat top. It was fantastic. There wasn't too much material for checking me out. I was also wearing a Depends to keep the mess contained while walking around. Most of my labour was at home, so I wasn't at the hospital very long before the birth, and was very happy to be in my own clothes. As for the mess factor, my tops ...
During labour I didn't really care what I was wearing. I found the hospital gown fine and convenient for exams and getting the epi (if you plan on it). It was also easy to get my arms out when he was born to expose my chest - he went straight for the boob as soon as we were skin to skin. After I delivered, I changed into a gown and wore a second gown backwards like a normal housecoat. ...
I guess I am the odd one out :s I absolutely HATED wearing the hospital gown while I was in labour. It was itchy and rough and just very uncomfortable overall. I would have preferred ANYTHING over those awful things. I was so happy when they asked me to change into my pjs after the epi wore off!!! Heavenly. I say its all about comfort. If you are comfortable labouring naked, then go for it. If its your favourite t-shirt or nighty, then that...
Frap - I was thinking how awful that was and whereever you are must have different gowns, as mine were cotton and so soft - then I noticed you are in Brampton too! LOL! I was at Trillium, but I think it is all in your comfort too!

Frap: You're not the only one! I laboured in a T-Shirt. It was really roomy so there was no trouble with the IV (I was in and out of the tub a lot) and I wore a sports bra in the tub. I felt much more in control in my own shirt. I wore a gown to the OR for the emergency C/S and then when I had my post op wash I changed back into a short nightie and kept everything else covered with a sheet. I felt much more myself dressed as myself
