Don't suppose anyone knows if its possible to obtain VAT invoices for domestic broadband bills do they? Bit worried about phoning up and asking in case they insists I take our a business package with them which will cost 5x the price for the same service (as I get full speeds at all hours regardless of the higher domestic contention ratio!)

I'm not quite convinced by the accuracy of this one's results. I think the downloads need to be a bit bigger... I'm guessing this has been around quite a while?

Oh, I didn't notice that was an "upgrade" of the other ntlworld one I tried.
Yes, those files are a little bit bigger, and the results are a lot more accurate.

You don't give any error numbers though, other than LOS (Loss Of Signal). As suggested, your sync rate will drop over time to a point where the connection never drops.
It won't be cost effective for quite some time - Force10 make a 10Gbit TOR switch but it's close to £20k. Brocade have one about as well but it'll be similar. As said, if you're running into problems with 1Gbit at home then you need to rethink what you're doing in terms of workflow, or if you're just storing rips of bluray's on a NAS and absolutely must be able to copy them around in seconds get NIC teaming...

Are you copying the files or moving them? Moving will take longer as it deletes the file after transfer so holds things up a bit. Shouldn't be that slow mind. Antivirus set too high maybe?
You will still need a router to handle the NAT and packet routing to networks outside your LAN, so you could get away with a single router/access point. Your SBS 2008 server should be set up as an Active Directory Domain Controller, a DNS server and a DHCP server, set the scope options to assign IP's from whatever range you want your network in (10.1.0.0/24 would be where I'd go), point the clients at the Server for the DNS address,...
You should have a blue wire going into pin 2, and a white + blue wire going into pin 5. If there are two lots of wires in there, it's probably an extension being run to another socket.
If on a home network you are being bottlenecked by 1GBit then I suggest you re-look at your infrastructure. What is it precisely that you are doing which requires more network bandwidth?
