Thread: Very disappointed with my Kimbers finish...

When I stripped it for cleaning the other night I noticed quite a bit of wear on the frame already, in what I consider a very unusual place. Sorry, the pictures aren't the greatest... But it's also worn a pretty good size spot underneath the slide lock, which I guess might be considered the 'norm' for the aluminum ...

You might call Kimber & ask them. Better yet, e-mail pictures. It's been a couple of weeks since I shot mine & cleaned it, but I don't recall any wear marks inside the frame like that. Mine is the Pro Crimson Carry II. It is a Light colored frame so may not show wear real well & I could have over-looked it. I'll take it down & look closely & let you know.

I was going to send Kimber an e-mail with the three pictures I took but I wasn't able to find an e-mail address on their website accept for a catalog request. Would I have to call their customer service and request an e-mail address, or am I just overlooking it?

The picture of the scrap under the slide stop is from riding the SS lug on the frame during reassembly.

Looks like you have some wear on top to the left frame rail, also. I had an alluminum frame UCII that developed a deep gouge along the top of the left frame rail. There was a large burr at the very front of the inside of the slide. You couldn't see it just by looking, but it could be felt with a screwdriver blade. That, combined with the plastic mainspring housing, and the mickey-mouse ...

Finally got a chance to take the gun out and put the 2nd string of 100 rounds of WWB through it, and here is the resulting frame wear: After the refinish the frame wear is obviously much, MUCH less than the first 100 rounds. There is still some minor wear which I expected, but there isn't any wear on the frame underneath the spring assembly like before. So far I'm impressed...
