Thread: Verizon Promises Tethering Support for the Motorola Droid

Started 3 weeks, 6 days ago by Ed Hardy
Although Verizon isn't going to offer tethering on the Motorola Droid at launch, it will add this feature early next year. This carrier's Broadband Access Connect service will then allow this Android smartphone to function as a wireless modem for other devices. This will add a monthly charge of $15, and is limited to 5 GB of data transfers each month. A Third-Party Option Those who don't...

I tether it my Centro even though Verizon says I can't. That makes my $30 unlimited data plan a bargain.

I wish Joiku would work on offering JoikuSpot for more than just Symbian devices. Their's seems like the best one and isn't a 'pairing' between specific devices. The latest version turns some Symbian phones into MiFi-like devices with access for up to 5 users. It's something like $40, but worth it.

Yeah QF, I've seen that too; but it doesn't do the multiple-user thing, does it? When I read about it in the Times, it was a one-user thing (though still pretty good.) Still, that's one of the reasons I like the HTC's along with the Droid. I really want a phone where I can use a robust, one-time fee, tethering app.

I keep hoping someone will make an app like JoikuSpot/WMWifiRouter for Android. PdaNet is great if you want to tether with your laptop, but not any other type of device, like an iPod touch. -

Ed, I'm sure (and hopeful) that this will come to pass. I'm not buying a smartphone unless that's an option (although the iPhone's apps still pull at me!).

I spoke with June Fabrics about a making a Wi-Fi router for Android. The response: Quote: We could but that will require rooting/hacking the phone so we avoided that. -

Ed, sounds like we might need this issue clarified if you get that chance to speak with Saygus-also interested to hear about Verizon allowing this Mi-Fi feature on their " ODI " network (free until 5GB/mo or $?) otherwise WM HTC HD2 on t-mobile? will just have another pick me feature..

I've still been using a Verizon XV6800 waiting for Verizon to release a worthy upgrade. I'm also a current WMWifiRouter user, and I can can say that this application (or rather the lack of it or anything like it) is the one and only thing stopping me from going out and getting a new Moto Droid right now. I had been waiting MONTHS for the Touch Pro 2 based on the specs, and it's still a great phone which I'd happily upgrade...

I'm in exactly the same situation. A XV 6800 user running WMwifiRouter and I really want to get the Droid. I won't change phones unless it's an upgrade, and without a program like WMwifiRouter it just isn't an upgrade. Being an open source phone, I have faith that we'll see a wifi tethering app at some point, so it's just a matter of when. I'm really hoping to follow this closely and see some development...

Talking about internet on mobile then rather paying extra for the internet and also limited data transfer per month then I would prefer Windows Mobile 6.5 as it can connect internet through wireless or wi-fi connection and unlimited data transfer. Adding to it, this feature called System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) provides network access to corporate data. It has ability to set and control policies set by using Active Directory and...
