I just recently renewed at $14.99 also. This is the third time that I have done so. As said, just be polite but be persistent. Prior to renewing this time I was able to get the speed upgrade just for the asking. I called and inquired about the speed increase that new subscribers were getting and asked if it was available to me for the remainder of my contract and they said fine. By the next day...

Hi, assuming I decide to go DSL, I have several questions. Firstly, I have a quite old Dell Dimension 4600 (purchased 2003) Specs: Pentium-4, 2.4 ghz with 256mb DDR at 333MHz. I suppose the speed is upgradable, but I've never opened a tower to add memory before. Just no experience at it. Also, note, I don't have a special modem required for DSL. I'm wondering which ...

You should get an additional 256 mb in order to total 512 mb. AntiVirus software fails to operate correctly below 512 mb. However, if your PC works at 256 mb so be it. The price is NOW $17.99 for life with a two year commitment with FREE modem. VOIP is NOT available from Verizon. Use Google Voice (FREE) for toll-tree long distance calls via DSL. Trial period is 30 days!...

I hear, but how would I feel if after I'd lock in, Verizon would again run a promotion for 14.99? Such things have been know to happen, especially due to the economy. I was even hesitating about 14.99 and even all2ez's 9.99 for that matter. I really appreciate your detailed responses! I take it that you still have the 14.99 deal which may I assume included free modem and ...

$17.99 is as low as it goes in today's World. If you you are waiting for it to go below $17.99, that will never happen - dream on. However, if the rate goes down (doubt it), the retention will lower the rate ON request. I was "grandfathered" at the $14.99 rate. You cannot be "grandfathered" if you NEVER had the $14.99 rate in the first place. The rate for www.all2easy.net ...

An addition of 256MB might be adequate if you run no background programs and have a dedicated video card. A more realistic minimum is probably an additional 512MB, though you might even want to consider buying a total of 1MB instead. If you wish to purchase only 256MB, make sure you have at least one of the 4 slots still empty in case you find the 512MB total not enough.

I agree. However, she was unwilling to even spend $10 for 256 mb of RAM. Ideally a total of 512 mb - 1 gb of RAM is the way to go. For under $30, she would have an excellent PC instead of a barely functioning PC by today's standards. If you do not want to upgrade, you can buy a new PC including LCD monitor for under $500. at Costco, Staples, or Dell.

Quote: $17.99 is as low as it goes in today's World. And this rate is not available in all areas. The NYC area has a lower rate than lots of areas that Verizon services. We regularly get mail from Verizon (we told them NOT to call us with "offers") with the price. One day we got two pieces of mail from them. Each had a different price for the same bundle and a different ...

Quoting some of those URLs: Before You Begin: [one of the tools recommended]: Flash BIOS update program floppy disk or CD Quote: Lay the computer on its side so that the system board is on the bottom of the inside of the computer. This scares me, because it's very heavy, and I'm weak, so I'm not sure I can move it in a stable way. Then there's the matter of "removing AGP card first". That looks complicated. This...

I'm guessing that you have two - 125MB sticks already in your Dimension for a total of 256MB. If you press F2 at startup, you can enter the BIOS and it will tell you exactly the amount of installed memory, computer memory speed, amount of video memory, size of the display cache, and channel mode (dual or single). I can't find exactly what is installed while looking over the specifications but this is listed for memory type Quote:...

1. Unpluged the computer from the electrical outlet 2. In the back of the computer is gray "backward L" lever. Push it down and slide the left side panel off. 3. Gently lay the computer sideways to make it easier to insert the memory. 4. Find an empty memory slot and push outward the 2 white levers that is used to hold the module in place. 5. Look on the memory module's bottom gold contacts. There is an empty notch on one side....

After giving it some serious thought, I split the posts about Upgrading RAM to a separate thread, as they aren't materially about Verizon DSL. The new thread address is:   http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33714    And, as is usually mentioned, remember that Verizon DSL service isn't available in all areas. Thank you.
