Thread: Vatican welcomes Anglicans into Catholic Church
Started 1 month, 1 week ago by NMOCM
ROME, Italy (CNN) -- The Vatican said Tuesday it has worked out a way for groups of Anglicans who are dissatisfied with their faith to join the Catholic
Church.
The Vatican says more Anglicans have expressed an interest in joining the Catholic Church.
The process will enable groups of Anglicans to become Catholic and recognize the pope as their leader, yet have ...
Now that's an interesting point. As I'm sure you know, the Catholic Church is very slow to change. The current move actually provides a potential
vehicle for the Church to begin considering a change of doctrine. Personally, I think the sex abuse scandal has forced the Vatican to reconsider some things.
From what I know of this Pope, I doubt that's the case. I think he sees the growing...
You're welcome.
For our British posters: Are people in Britain interested in this development at all, or is it seen as kind of inconsequential?
Tomorrow I'm hopefully going to provide a sanity check on some of the press coverage of this story... particularly coming from The Times in the UK who is
reporting on this almost like it's a scandal.

It hasn't been a big news item at all.
Most dedicated Anglicans will stay as they are.
If this is the case, why not just go for the full-monty, and let all these guys get married?
Several problems; The churches are too far apart for priests to marry each other and have a stable relationship. They have all the young boys and nuns that
they can handle so why get married?

Yes. I suspect that the number of resulting converts in Britain will be small (...

It has been said that God rules the world but chooses to be ruled by prayer.
Throughout the centuries Christians have prayed for unity as our Lord Jesus Christ prayed for unity. This is good and ...
So, here's why this story should matter to people besides Catholics and "anglo-Catholics..."
The cracks in the Anglican Church are already spreading in response to this offer in a number of ways.
The Anglican "Bishop" of Chinchester, John Hind, has announced that he is strongly considering the Vatican's offer. The
"Bishop" of Broadhurst has declared that "the Anglican experiment is over...
In case this story caught anyone's interest...
The Traditional Anglican Communion in the UK has just announced that it will accept the Pope's offer. It's the first group to do so... (a number of
groups are waiting until the Feast of the Chair of St. Peter, which I believe is on Feb. 22nd, to announce their decisions)
It's twenty-something parishes. Some of them have some pretty nice ...
The Chair being the Cathedra. In Catholicism, a bishop's chair is held in the Cathedral (that's why it's called a Cathedral) and traditionally, when a bishop wanted to make a doctrinally binding statement, he would make it from his chair. Basically, though, it's a metonym for the bishop's office... and St. Peter's Chair represents the doctrinal authority of the Papacy and also the line of succession going back to...
