I have been given a vag com interface (serial not USB) I can get it to communicate with the engine module 01 but get an unrecognisable error and implausible error (can't remember code). If I do an auto scan on 409.1 shareware it seems to be always retrying baud rate. My mate told me that he used it on his RS4 and his mate used on his RS6. The OBD socket only has 3 pins. He used ...

Unless its one of the more recent cables then it will not be compatible with the canbus on the Octy2. See here for compatibilty. http://www.ross-tech.net/VCDS/downlo...lityCharts. pdf

OK, So it looks like its an out of date cable and I was lucky to get any comm's at all. bit confused though because cars that it has been used on show same interfaces as my VRS accept I have additional comms (micro can.) i guess i should just buy a newer cable as suggested, i see others have had success with Ebay cables (i don't want to open that can of worms) as disussed in other ...

The compatibility list only applies to currently sold Ross-Tech hardware , it does not list discontinued Ross-Tech hardware or 3rd party hardware. As stated by mannyo already you seem to have either an older interface from us (what does the label on the interface say?) or (which is more likely) a 3rd party interface. 3rd party/eBay hardware will not work on the 1Z at all, neither will it ...
