Hello. I am hoping to surprise my husband with a trip to Virginia to see a Virginia Tech football game in November (it is for his 40th bday). We will be flying in to Roanoke on Friday, the game is on Saturday, and we'll leave on Sunday. I have never been to Virginia and would really appreciate any suggestions you have for places to stay, places to visit, eat, etc. We will not have ...
My husband has found his dream job in Fredericksburg. We are looking at an unexpected move happening pretty quickly, and I would SO appreciate any advice/recommendations regarding the following:
1. We will be looking for a house-- in what suburbs/country areas of Fredericksburg should we be looking? Our DREAM would be to have an older house on acreage, but we're willing to defer ...
I'm also near there, and could help, too!
However, due to some serious health issues that I'm having, I'm not currently up for visits, or even phone calls. BUT I'm glad to offer support, encouragement, etc via email. (I used to be very active in the Frankfort area breastfeeding support group, before my illness took over my life.)
Hi Lexington Mamas,
We are going to Lexington this weekend so my parents can meet our new baby. We are driving from NC and my parents are driving from Chicago.
I am looking for suggestions of cheap, fun things to do with our 6 & 3 yr olds, like fun community parks/playgrounds (if there is a carousel, all the better) or a community pool, beach...anything. My kids are easily...
Where will you be staying? There are many parks. Walking around downtown is always fun for my kids. They love the farmers market. There is a play area at the mall, but it is as unimpressive as they come! It's fun if there are kids to run around with, though. There is a nice little wildlife refuge in Frankfort about 30 minutes from Lexington and it's free. There are a lot of public pools in parks ...
Sorry you are having a hard time getting a response from the group.
I joined them via the Baby Wearer site (another great resource for info and
purchases - including used carriers at reasonable prices):

Also, depending where you are located, I can give you contact information for someone in Alexandria that would be able to ...

We are a military family and currently my hubby Jamie is attending nursing school at George Mason University for 2 years.
I stay at home with my boys and my girl attends public ...
not in Woodbridge but nearby. We actually live fairly close to GMU. I also have a dd who is nearly 8, and a 10mo son. And we're military. If you homeschooled, we'd be totally in sync.
My friend is looking to try for a VBAC for this pregnancy. She lives in Amsterdan Ohio but is currently looking for midwives in Pittsburgh or Wheeling, WV (I'm not sure if that's because she can't find any midwives closer to her or if there aren't vbac friendly hospitals nearby). She wants a hospital birth with a midwife. Anyone have any recommendations for her? Thanks!
I got this in the mail today, and while it's a bit far for me to drive, I thought I'd share since some of you ladies may be interested! Northern Virginia Midwifery presents: Saturday, December 5th, 10am in Arlington The lost custom of ingesting the placenta post partum is returning to birthing women. The purpose of this hands-on workshop is to inform attendees about the benefits of placenta consumption and to familiarize attendees...
I found the Virginia liscensing regulations. It does state that disposable diapers are preferred, but that cloth can be used if childs skin reacts adversely to them. It does not mention needing a drs note, however individual centers may require one. It goes on to say that if cloth is used, a separate leakproof covered container must be used. Here is the link to the PDF file . It is on the pages 64-65 of the file.
i have dr gregory at lakeview pediatrics. i really, really like the practice although I am considering switching to another practice with the birth of my new baby, just because of the distance (I am in Va Bch and he is in suffolk 45 minutes by car) and me not having a car right now. My midwife recommended a doctor who is homebirth-friendly so I will be checking that practice out soon.

Thank you, edwardsmom! I've decided to plan a surprise closer to home this year, as I'm not sure my kids (or I) are ready to be states about yet. But, I plan to surprise him with that trip at some point in the future, so I'll keep this info for then. Thank you again!
Hello mommas! There's a chance that my health care at work will be changing and I'd like some input from local ladies as I think about TTC soon. If you have had a home birth recently AND have Blue Cross Blue Shield... did BCBS cover your homebirth? In-network or out-of-network? And lastly, if you want to share, who was your midwife? Any problems getting insurance to help cover costs? If you don't want to post, feel free to PM...
Hi all, We just moved to Louisville, KY from Seattle. We're looking for a doctor for my 13 month and 3 year old boys, my husband and myself. Family practice preferred. We believe in natural childbirth, breastfeeding and cloth diapering but also believe in vaccination. Got anyone you can recommend? We're near St. Matthews, so someone out thataway (or Crescent Hill or Highlands) would be best. Thanks much, Mylocat (doctor and mom of 2)
