Hi guys, I have my computer in my bedroom, and right around the corner I have my "media room". I have my computer connected via optical cable to my Onkyo 707 receiver in my "media room" for when I want to watch movies or listen to music out there. Don't have to switch cables. You can buy a box even with remote that will switch channels. Most PC software says one or the other. Get a patchbox. Google.

Depending on your OS you can just tell it to use XXX output for this app and XXX output for that app. My Foxconn board supports dual digital output. MUst have Vista or newer though probably.

I imagine it will depend on the board and drivers but both my digital out ports, Coax+Optical, on the I/O backplane of my P35 board work off the same Vista driver device fpr the onboard sound chip and both have sound on them simultaneously. If you don't have different devices in Control Panel->Sounds for the two different connectors then it's a pretty good bet they'll both be ...

Windows 7... get it, you can swich between any outputs with two clicks of the mouse, and just leave everything connected. The only issue is if you wanted them both on at the same time. A royal pain, but doable.
