Thread: Upgrading to COMAND from Standard

Started 2 months, 1 week ago by Kibim
I recently bought an 04 ML500. I was looking for a long time to find one with the COMAND upgrade, but wasn't able to. The one i bought has the Audio 30 Headunit with the BOSE speakers. I would like the COMAND unit tho! Is there any way to upgrade to this? Or is the GPS and COMAND data system a factory fitted nightmare? Also, I want to use my cell-phone with the car. It's NOT prewired ...

Hi there I just joined yesterday and are also from South Africa. I also wanted to have a parrot bluetooth fitted. They wanted the vehickle for a day in order to connect it to the amp under the front passenger seat. I haven't done it because I don't feel like waiting a whole day. There's a fitment centre at Vodaworld that'll do the parrot on a harness, usually a quick install. But I guess they'd have to see the vehicle first, before they could say how long it would take. There's a very easy way of getting the front to lift, using the torsion bar adjustment. You can do it yourself at home. Read : http://www.4x4abc.com/ML320/ml320_torsion.html

Thanks, have seen the link on the torsion bar. Will waite till I have put on bigger tyres before I adjust the torsion bars. That will lift the front by about an inch, but what about the back then? They talked about spacers on the coil springs or something. The website where most of these things refer to with offroad stuff, doesn't work anymore.

KiBim, since youre ML is a 2004 model, you need a different comand wiring loom that I have suggested. The loom you need is cheaper anyway! I don't have the part number for you, but the loom is available from that last website I gave you.

Where are you going? The most second hand comand units is released from Germany. You must get a Europe spec unit with part number A163 820 36 89. You must nog get any other part number unless you want to spend more money getting it installed. The GPS antenna is no problem either. (I will have to double check on 2004 model though). The wiring is already in the roof. You just need to buy ...
