Suvi, I think you've got too much going on here. I'd even out the background as it is fighting with the spread wings of the owl. As for the owl, I don't think you have to depict or paint individually every feather on the wings but rather just give the 'effect' of feathers. I'd like to see the ref photo on this as I'd think the owl's head would be a bit larger.

Dana - Thanks for looking in and taking the time to respond. I didnt want to just paint the feathers individually but rather like you observed give the effect of the feathers. The owls head should look like it is tilted down, I will have to go back into the ref photo and have a look.. Thanks agaiN!!

What a spooky looking owl!! I'm sure your parents will appreciate it very much. What kind of owl is that?

Thanks LG - I believe it is a type of Grey owl,(the one without the horns) The same that they have flying around the house.

I actually like the brushstrokes of the owl and wings. I bet a simpler background would really make this

yeah, I agree with others. The background is attracting lot of focus. It should be even out and I would prefer a different color (instead of grey) which can bring the focus back to the owl. Also, I feel the face of owl should be little darker, check out the ref photo.

It is hard to figure what to do so I started to play with it adding blue and purple as a glaze then added golds and rust glazes to ground. The posts seemed to strong so I added gray to them. To your owl I pushed the contrast to bring out his form. These are just some ideas for you to consider. I often pull my work into a paint program to try out stuff that would be hard to reverse in real life. ...
