Started 4 months, 2 weeks ago by tellyman
Hi, Been reading this fantastic forum but I'm unable to find the answer to this issue. I have an unlocked 8800 (Confirmed from one of your pages) and when I insert a SIM card, the blue arrows appear next to the antenna and after they disappear have got about 4 bars of strength with the carrier name showing. If I then initiate a call I just get a message saying "Call Failed" and thats ...

Wirelessly posted (8820 from a beach in Delaware) Have you tried another SIM card? How did you unlock it?

tellyman replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Thnks for your reply Sytner. I have tried 2 different carrier SIM cards, both gve the same problem. I unlocked it using an unlock code purchased from ebay. Hope this helps. Graham.

Wirelessly posted (8820 from a beach in Delaware) I take it the phone worked prior to the unlocking? Are there any items enabled when you go to Options>Advanced Options>SIM Card and type (whilst holding alt) mepd ?

tellyman replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Thnks for your reply Sytner. I don't know if it worked previously as it was given to me. If I use the MEPD says everything is disabled. Hope this helps. Graham.

Wirelessly posted (8820 from a beach in Delaware) Does the device has any sort of operator branding on it? If it does would there be a chance that you could get a sim for that operator and try that?

tellyman replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
It was originally T-Mobile (UK) and that's confirmed by the splash screen. Graham

Have you tried resending the Service Books? Worth a shot...

tellyman replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Thanks ndub33 for your reply. I'm not sure what you mean. How do you do this? Graham

Service books won't matter trying to make a call. Even with no service books an unlocked BB should get voice and SMS, right? Graham - who is your carrier?

Sytner replied 4 months, 2 weeks ago
Wirelessly posted (8820 from a beach in Delaware) Can you try a T-Mo SIM in the device and see if that works? Yes an unlocked BlackBerry should make and receive calls regardless of wether they have a data plan or any service books.

The difference between it saying EDGE and GPRS on the separate is just the coverage of the two providers differentiating.

cool.. just wanted to confirm. I had read that. When reconnecting to a PC where the IT Policy *.bin file is located or has been copied, the IT Policy is reloaded automatically. It could have happened to you, and is a valid question.
