Thread: Unimog Cleaning - Steam

Started 1 month ago by Tom Santoli
Has anyone used a steam cleaner to remove oil/ grease/ dirt from the underside of there unimog? Is it effective? Will the steam damage anything on a 404 or 411? I thought steam cleaning might be a handy way to avoid scraping and would create less contaminated water than a pressure washer; easier on seals and gaskets I think too? Thansks, Tom

David, Thanks for the advice, I looked for your post in the past and could not find it. Where did you pick up the HEMTT rims and where did you get them setup for your truck?

How about a few photos? that would have to be worth at least a 1000s words each of information

I have to ask ... what is your Goal? Midengine? different engine? more power? 3 seats up front? different body? Anything is possiable, look we have a Unimog to start with thats a huge upgrade from a Dodge pickup truck. so knowing what the ultimate goal is might help us recomend so cool ideas.

I assume you will post to the forum.. as im sure others will be interested. Also any part #s that you might have avaliable would also be helpfull. And I recon last but not least, how does it perform? Does the engine notice the drag? Does it affect top speed? Might also include your engine HP for referance too. Thanks David

I have a customer in Kansas who is adding AC to his CASE 406. He is using the bracket from the extra air pump I am supplying for the compressor. And then using the parts from a company who makes kits up for hot rods call "Vintage air" He states that the parts should fit where the heater is now and puts out AC and heat. Cost is about $1k. I plan on making up a setup for my 416 doka doing the same ...

So what are you hauling in? I assume this is goigng to be some sort of High speed winch of sorts? are you going to going to use it like a captin winch, or actually haul the line in on it? Just a thought... if the other wheel is locked I believe the diferantial will spin this tire 2 times as fast as normal.....as the spur gear rotates around the ring. might be safer easier to just ...

I agree George, don't quit dreaming- just because it's crappy now, doesn't mean it can't get worse ! Seriously, keep dreaming. Here is a 404 owner that did. Just the thing for camping on a windy bluff overlooking the grand canyon....

Esde, I understand. I just figured someone would have some experiential feedback in getting it on without any problems or breaking a tab, and before I waste my time trying to install it. I know it seemed like a little thing, but I am glad I posted the question either way. No i know how to proceed. This is a Unimog owner/user/fixer forum. Any relative subject matter is valid. My best advice would be to not entertain a post that causes you any...

I'm sorry T max I dont mean to insalte you, but I think you are a little confused. When you put a front axle on the rear the pinion direction is reversed causing the intire diff center section is to end up on the the opiste side it was originally when the the axle was on the front, As for my qestion on mesurements, I thought I made them pretty clear, And yes I was under the truck how do you think I came up with the mesuerments, Eh? WTF is...

I don't know the truck other than seeing it on e-bay a bunch of times, but with the extras, options, ect, I think the seller is finally down to a price that might sell in this economy. Back during the summer the asking price was just too high, especially for the e-bay market and the current economy. If you figure in the prices of the tool kits, rear tarp and bows, winch, PTO unit, and fast axle conversion it is a decent buy at the buy it...

Electric solenoid refers to the devices activating the hydralics at the steering level. These will control all steering of the rear axle. These in turn are commanded by a simple position indicator setup that is active only when your in cab steering switch is in its neutral position or you have a neutral switch. So, if you only use a 3 way switch, you have lock to lock steering with a neutral that centers the rear. If you use a centering...
