You forgot to mention that the pledge was written by Francis Bellamy, a self-proclaimed socialist and that "under God" was added after WWII (I forget the date now)

"Under God" was added in the Eisenhower Administration in 1954. I entirely breaks up th rhythm of the Pledge. Ironically enough, Eisenhower was a lifelong agnostic.
