I'm not mad at Tyler Perry in the least little bit for his shows or plays. Why? Because he's doing what most African-American entrepeneurs have been told that cannot happen. He is targeting the AA community and owns a multi-billion dollar business doing it. I get sick of hearing black business people who gripe about how they cannot market exclusively to the black community. My significant other ...
Quick comment, also, if you notice its mainly black women who are buying into his films and plays. It shows the economic power of the black woman. I'm loving that!
I don't get his product one bit. But I can't really call it "coonery," because his characters usually have redeeming qualities. Plus, his stuff is aimed almost exclusively at black people, and it's very impressive to see how a black man could aim directly and exclusively at black people and create this tremendous empire. I watched the interview last night ... and as far as I'm concerned, Tyler Perry is THE MAN!!! Spike and everybody else can complain all they want to ... but the bottom line is Tyler is more successful, has more money, and is making a bigger impact on Hollywood AND African America (i.e., putting Black people to work - in front of and behind the cameras!) than all of them HATERS!...

It's amazing to see posts bashing Spike Lee's movies to defend Tyler Perry. Spike Lee is a trailblazing pioneer, both in opportunities for black film and in the kinds of movies he's made.
