i'm with hotroady on this one, when the resitance at the starter windings go up because of heat, you need some hefty battery cables to pass enough current to turn the starter. my old truck used to melt cables and a starter relay when trying to start hot. normally a fresh starter replacment would cure it, but i had these monster battery cables off a diesel generator, that i ...

Would 2/0 gauge wire work well? (4/0 is stock, right?)

I use 00 welding cable...very effective.

yeah, my battery is in the trunk and I use an Optima battery. Fires right up!
