Thread: Trend Micro PC-cillin 14 not compatible with Windows 7

Started 1 month, 2 weeks ago by djblady79
I recently updated to Windows 7 32bit, however I needed to remove TM PC-cillin Internet Security 14 before I could install W7. I puchased a 3 yr. subscription with Dell but cannot get an upgrade from Trend Micro. They don't answer support requests and I don't have the product key to pursue it further. Tech Support did not help either. Help!

This link (near the bottom) seems to suggest that a free upgrade is possible: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/Pages/Can-I-use-my- Trend-Micro-software-on-Windows-7.aspx As you have version 14 now, try this link: http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/viewxml.do? ContentID=EN-1054146

There are always alternatives if you can't get Trend Micro back - or at least something as a stopgap. There's a list of free security software below (Bugbatter is a regular here as well), though not sure if all are Win7 ready. Probably the closest to combined antivirus/antispyware like Trend Micro would be the new Microsoft Security Essentials (along with the Win7 built in firewall). ...

Yes, I see that link, however I do not know what my serial # is since it was preinstalled by Dell, then uninstalled by Windows 7 upgrade. Where can I find this serial no.?

NemesisDB replied 1 month, 2 weeks ago
As you ordered the software as an extra, I believe that you should have received it on CD (in addition to it coming preinstalled). Generally the CD sleeve will have the serial number on it. If you never received the CD or have lost it, you may be out of luck. That said, post back if that's the case and I will see what I can find out.

WIth the Trend Micro I have pre-installed from Dell the serial number isn't on the CD sleeve - it only shows up in the program itself. So it's a catch-22 - can't get the serial number without the program installed, and can't install the upgrade for Win7 without the original serial number. There is a nuclear option: If the upgrade was from Vista, the original PC Restore image might ...

djblady79, I've discussed this issue with our SME's and they said that once the new Operating System has been installed (Windows 7) then go to the desktop icon that says "Dell Upgrade Assistant" and click on it. The PC-Cillin product key code will be inserted at that point. The DUA will also upgrade the PC-Cillin to the Windows 7 version. If you have already run the DUA, then run it ...

I just finished my upgrade from Vista 64 to Win7 64 and have the same problem. When I began my Win7 upgrade, the Upgrade Assistant told me that Windows 7 is incompatible with the Trend Micro Internet Security (15-month subscription) that came with my 435T and that I had to uninstall it. When the Win7 upgrade was done, Upgrade Assistant upgraded Internet Explorer and a few other programs but it ...
