my first post and i want to say thanks for all the info so far!!
I went on a relatively flat tow today with my 4500 lb jayco hybrid trailer and had some issues/questions.
i have a '10 5.7 4wd crew w/tow pkg and was not impressed with my mileage (7-8) on this haul. i did notice the only way i was able to get the transmission into 5th gear was going into S mode. i towed halfway there ...
about 1k, i read the manual and it stated to make sure and wait till the break in was over. 500 before you tow and then another 500 minimal towing. if you know ohio it was as flat as kansas and about 55 miles is all.
i didnt push it hard at all, i am guessing as i get some more life on it, it will continue to get better.
I Agree About The Miles. I Have A Lift And Mine Pulled A Dump Trailer That Was Really Heavy And Went Through All The Gears. Dont Know What To Say But That Dont Sound Right At All. Is It Possible You Have A Break Thats Sticking On The Trailer Or Something. I Can Actually Race My Truck With A Trailer And It Will Do A Pretty Good Job.i Would Also Like To Add That I Dont Believe My Truck Broke In ...
Something ain't right. I have an '07 CM 5.7 towing a 19' travel trailer at an estimated weight of 6K LBS including other gear. I consistently average the following in all-highway but mixed terrain driving (hills & flats) with Tow/Haul active:
9MPG @ 70MPH
11MPG @ 65MPH
11.5MPG @ 60MPH
When I'm unloaded I get:
20MPG @ 55MPH
14.5MPG in mixed driving, but with a heavy foot (my normal ...

One of the main purposes of tow mode is to keep the engine at its peak torque range, which is 3-3600k. Tow mode does a good job at this. This means the truck will using 3rd and 4th gear a lot of the time, but will give you lower mileage, but better towing response.
I tow mostly in the mountains, and that is where the tow mode really shines, on flat ground I rarely notice any difference if toe ...

This is great! Exactly what I was looking for! The engineer written users manual. This helps to make sense of what's happening and make sure that my unfortunate comparisons to my POS Durango I had are insignificant. Thanks again! This is a good read. I will share it with my dad as well, he was along for the ride and reading my owners manual out loud trying to make sense of what the engine was doing, how and why. Thats his automotive...

If you are running "ST" trailer tires, you should be aware that those are rated at 65 mph max; and most experienced drivers keep their speed around 60 mph. Also, if those are Goodyear Marathons, you should use your favorite search engine to look for "Goodyear Marathon Failures". It's a real eye-opener...

I tow a 33' travel trailer with 2 slides. Weighs about 9K as towed. I use T/H mode all the time when towing. That's what it's there for. Up the hills of NC and down the hills. Let the engine scream and the gas burn. The more horses you got pulling the wagon the more hay you gots to buy. Right? I bought this 5.7 CM because of it's towing capacity and wouldn't trade it for anything else and I've driven them all....
