Not sure about a top 10, since I really don't watch many horror movies at all, but [REC] would definitely be the scariest movie I've ever seen. Eraserhead is another that definitely scared me... some of the scenes with the E.T.-baby neat the end had me shaken.
Every movie with Jason. Accidentally watched one when I was 3 or 4, and it literally scarred me for life. I had to go to so much child therapy, haha. A preview for a Jason movie came on in a theater once, and I couldn't handle it, had to leave. That stuff is deep seeded in my brain. Other scary movies don't bother me much.
I was never really scared by movies. I'll post my 10 favorites though.
1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. Friday the 13th Part VII
3. The Silence of the Lambs
4. Halloween
5. The Exorcist
6. Hellraiser
7. A Nightmare on Elm Street Part III
8. Friday the 13th
9. The Shining
10. Stephen King's "It"
The only movie that I've seen that frightened me was The Shining , and I think it was due to the fact that the first time I saw it, I was in a secluded, snowed-in cabin in the mountains.

Was your husband there writing a novel at the same time? Now THAT would be scary.
Halloween is the definition of "scary". Watching the film, one can feel their heart beating faster and faster, all the build up is unbearable and release is even better, this one of the rare movies that is perfectly executed. Everything about it is absolutley perfect. Ebert nailed it when he had it in his top 5 of the year. Writing, acting, pacing, music, everything. Halloween is as good as ...

J Pep 4 Step wrote: 1. Excorcist 2. Blair Witch Project 3. The Shining 4. Evil Dead 5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Original) I can't think of any other movies that even remotely scared me. Really, only the top 2 on the list scared me. The rest just creaped me out at points. And of all of them, only the Excorcist still scares me. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. Now it's easily my favorite...

It is literally the exact same movie, except in english, with different actors and VERY minor differences in the movie. The location, what happens, how everything happens,...
