Thread: To Crete, or not To Crete?

Crete, like any other company is what you make it. They have a large freight base, all over the country. They do a lot of drop and hook and the most important thing, they are very honest with you. You may not like waht they have to say, but they are honest with you. I bought the truck I'm driving now through Crete back in 1999, when I was leased to HTL. It's been a good truck and they were ...

I left Crete in 2000 when I moved to San Antonio,TX. I was living in the Dallas area previously and would get home about every 10 days for at least 12hrs. When I moved to SA I know this would not be the case. It would be more like 3-4 weeks out. Since my kids were still young I wanted to be home more often. Therefore, I hired on to HEB grocery as a driver so I could be home every day. The ...

Goodluck to you jdrentzjr, hope it works out for you and your family. Sounds like that is a fair deal from Crete if they keep you busy. Keep us updated on how things are going.

Will I'm at home for CHRISTmas and New Year and enjoying time with family. Thought while I had a few extra minutes I'd give you folks an update on my becoming an O/O leased to Crete. Through the end of my Nov. settlements I've a Net Profit of $21,000 on an avg. of 12,466 mls per month. My Net fuel cost is 0.142 cents per mile. The only expense I don't have is MED/Dental/Vision, which I have ...

It is no ones business how much I pay myself. However, I understand the angle to your question. Therefore, I will just say that the $21K profit is before I pay myself, and is the profit after ALL expenses, including taxes and maintainance fund. Now, how do you like it! I'm not going to get rich, but then again, anyone posting here or reading said posts aren't either. This is my first step in...

Can the ATTITUDE , I asked a question and it was not WHAT YOU PAY YOURSELF $ wise just if that PROFIT was before or after you paid yourself. Your #s add up to aprox $0.42 / mile thats left before you paid yourself so it was not hard to figure out whats left for you.

John, following you will find your September 2009 monthly financial statement. In looking at the September financials, you are showing a Net Profit of $41,695 for the year-to-date period. This comes out to $0.422 cents per mile and is based on 98,877 paid miles. You are averaging 10,986 paid miles per month this year compared with 12,045 monthly miles you averaged last year. You were out on the road 250 days through the end of September 2009...

Actually Les, he isn't running for $1.15, that is what his costs are. Here, try actually reading it this time. Go slow, and it might sink in. Quote: That comes out to 1.15 a mile. It shouldn't cost more than that to run under your own name. 1.70 per mile isn't great and an independent should always be on the lookout for better, but you can still survive on it when times are slow. Maybe people that can't comprehend basic...

Les is right, the problem with many indies is they see the bigs treating their headhauls like backhauls or fillers to get to another area. Most indies are either incompetent or too lazy when it comes to securing their own freight, they would rather rely on brokers to do it for them and then bi*tch about how much a cut they're taking. Who was it that said (on another site) that they can make a profit on $1.70 per mile as an indie? As far...

you are showing a Net Profit of $74,087 for the year-to-date period. This comes out to $0.491 cents per mile and is based on 151,027 paid miles. An average Indie,as you all call them, can earn that same amount on 120,000.00 miles a year or less. Let's go with Detroit 60's 1.70 a mile. 120,000.00 x1.70=204,000.00 Minus 130,000.00 and you have 74,000.00. _________________ Send me some Viagra.

I know DD60, and he doesn't run for $1.15. Again, he stated he can survive on $1.70, but prefers more. simple Les, he knows his minimum, but tries not to make that a habit. Shady, for the reasons you listed, the only pertinent number for comparison is average gross income per mile, and I think that's what JDR was looking for (at least partially). I have always said, and you well illustrated, that net numbers cannot be compared since there are so many opinions on what is a true business expense and the generally nonstandard way that owner operators amortize thier equipment cost (it is not done on a monthly...

The cost to file as a corporation, and the lack of any liability protection (as the actual drive), does not make it financially benificial to file taxes otherwise.
